    • Described is the outputting of a representation of complex state or other information to an output mechanism, such as computer program state data, in which the output of the state information is configurable. The state information is conveyable via the output mechanism, which may be an auxiliary display device, such as at least one LED and/or luminescent strip, and which may be viewed from a large distance relative to text and graphics displays, and/or remotely on a peripheral device. Logic receives state data from a data source such as an application program, and applies configuration data such as rules and/or user defined preferences to selectively control the output to be conveyed. Various state data may be conveyed via differing colors, differing numbers of LEDs illuminated, differing brightness, differing color intensity, differing hue and/or differing flash/pulse patterns. State information that is output is updatable when some state change occurs.

    • Described is a method and system comprising solution modules that allow a user to compose a customized computer system configured according to a user's needs. Modules may be by simply coupling them to a base computer system. Each module contains the hardware that enables a base computer system to accomplish a limited computing task, along with supporting software that is loaded to enable the base computer system to operate the hardware. The present invention thus provides an additive model, in which each module contains one or more hardware components, drivers and application programs, operating system modules, middleware and/or services that allow a user to compose a custom computer system. Examples of solution modules include an Internet module comprising a NIC and supporting software, a module that augments a computer system with digital video recorder capabilities, modules for advanced graphics subsystems such as for games, and others.

    • An optical apparatus is disclosed which achieves high focusing accuracy and favorable responsiveness in AF control. The apparatus includes a signal generator which extracts signals in a plurality of frequency bands from an output from an image-pickup part and generates focus signals from the extracted signals, and a controller which performs focus control such that the focus signal approaches the highest value. The controller uses a first focus signal and a second focus signal in the focus control. The second focus signal is a synthesis signal formed by synthesizing a focus signal in a relatively high or the highest frequency band of the plurality of frequency bands and a focus signal in another frequency band and contains a component of the focus signal in the relatively high or highest frequency band at a higher ratio as compared with the first focus signal.
