    • A color negative film is disclosed capable of producing dye images suitable for digital scanning. With a green recording layer unit coated over a red recording layer unit a red exposure information containing dye image record is created that better matches human visual color perception when reversed to a positive that is red with unsought densities in the same spectral region as the red exposure information containing dye image attributable to blue and green recording layer units subtracted, by (a) withholding colored masking couplers from the recording layer units, (b) employing tabular grain emulsions with average aspect ratios of less than 15 in the green recording layer unit, and (c) placing spectral sensitizing dye in the red recording layer unit that exhibits an overall half-peak absorption bandwidth of at least 50 nm bridging the green and red regions of the spectrum, with absorption at 560 nm being in the range of from 80 to 95 percent of maximum absorption, which is located in the spectral region of from 575 to 710 nm.

The element has red, green and blue light recording silver halide emulsion layer units and provides broad, hypsochromic green spectral sensitivity that overlaps with the red spectral sensitivity. The wavelength of maximum sensitivity of the red recording emulsion layer unit is between about 580 and 620 nm, the wavelength of maximum sensitivity of the green recording emulsion layer unit is between about 520 and 565 nm, the relative sensitivity of the green recording emulsion layer unit at 50% of the maximum sensitivity exhibits an overall breadth of at least about 65 nm, and the relative sensitivity of the green recording emulsion layer unit at 520 nm is at least 60% of the maximum.

In preferred embodiments of the invention, the photographic element is especially suited for more accurately recording scenes according to the human visual system.

When the images produced by the red recording layer units are printed as red images, the human eye sees the red component image as an improved reproduction of the red component of the original image.
