    • On a network, access to individual data processing systems is remotely controlled from a host data processing system. A security request is provided at the host data processing system. The security request specifies the target data processing systems, whether those systems are to be locked or unlocked, the peripherals of the specified data processing systems that are affected and a password. The security request is communicated to all data processing systems in communication with the host data processing system. Each data processing system processes the security request to determine if it is a target. If so, then a lock status of a target set of data processing systems is changed in response to the security request. The change in lock status of the target set of data processing systems either facilitates or prohibits use of the target set of data processing systems.

    • A method of monitoring vibratory phenomena that occur in an aviation gas turbine engine in operation includes establishing a frequency spectrum of a vibratory signal representative of the operating state of the engine and of its components; using a plurality of vibratory signatures, each corresponding to a vibratory phenomenon that occurs during operation of aeroengines of the same type as the engine being monitored and originating from a defect in or an abnormal operation of a component of the engines; identifying, in the spectrum, the points of curves that match mathematical functions, each defining a vibratory signature; and for each identified curve corresponding to a defect of engine components, analyzing the amplitude associated with the points of the curve relative to predefined amplitude values corresponding to a degree of severity of the defect; and as a result of an amplitude value being exceeded or an abnormal operation being detected, issuing a message associated with the vibratory signature.

    • The invention relates to a method and a system for monitoring vibratory phenomena that occur in an aviation gas turbine engine in operation.     • A method and system for the efficient distribution of electronic mail items within a distributed data processing system having multiple users enrolled therein wherein each user utilizes a computer or terminal device having a unique address. After selecting an individual electronic mail item for distribution an intuitive graphic representation of a group of unique addresses is displayed within a user's terminal device. The intuitive graphic representation may take one of several forms including a two or three dimensional graphic representation of an office floor plan which identifies the occupants of each office, or a photographic image of one or more users. In response to a graphic selection by the user of a particular graphic representation, or portion thereof, an identified electronic mail item is then automatically distributed to the user whose unique address is associated with that graphic representation or portion thereof. In one embodiment an electronic mail item is displayed as a miniature graphic representation or "icon" and is thereafter automatically distributed in response to a relocation of that icon to a position overlying the graphic representation or portion thereof, utilizing well known "drag and drop" techniques.
