    • The present invention relates to a display device in which a plurality of optical sensors are provided in a display panel. A liquid crystal panel with built-in sensors (11) includes, in a pixel array (18), a plurality of pixel circuits and a plurality of optical sensors which are arranged two-dimensionally. A panel drive circuit (17) writes signals generated according to display data D3 into the pixel circuits, and reads signals generated according to the amounts of received light, from the optical sensors. An image processing unit (12) switches display data which is used before reading by the panel drive circuit (17) is performed, to fixed data suitable for image input. For the fixed data, white image data or blue image data is used. According to the present invention, by performing image input after displaying, using fixed data, an image suitable for image input, the influence of a displayed image is eliminated, enabling to perform image input and touch position detection with high accuracy, irrespective of displayed image. The display device of the present invention can be used as a liquid crystal display device.

    • The present invention relates to a display device that has a plurality of optical sensors provided in a display panel and that can be operated by touching a screen with a finger or pen. A liquid crystal panel with built-in sensors (11) includes a plurality of pixel circuits (1) and a plurality of optical sensors (2) which are arranged two-dimensionally. An MPU (18) selects either a mode that detects a shadow image of an object or a mode that detects a reflection image of the object, based on an illumination of outside light. One frame time is divided into a display period and a sensing period. A backlight (14) is controlled to be turned on during the display period in the shadow image mode and during the sensing period in the reflection image mode, and to be turned off during the sensing period in the shadow image mode and during the display period in the reflection image mode. According to the present invention, the detection accuracy for a touch position is increased while the power consumption of the backlight is suppressed.

    • A liquid crystal display devices (1a, 1b) each include a touch panel (2), a liquid crystal panel (3), a touch panel controller (4), a liquid crystal driving controller (timing generator) (5), oscillation circuits (7a, 7b), a correcting circuit (10), and a frequency counter (11). The frequency counter (11) counts a reference clock signal CLK supplied from the oscillation circuit (7a) or (7b). The correcting circuit (10) determines, in accordance with information supplied from the frequency counter (11), whether or not a frequency of the reference clock signal CLK is a predetermined frequency. In a case where the frequency of the reference clock signal CLK is not the predetermined frequency, the correcting circuit (10) corrects (i) a frequency at which the liquid crystal panel (3) is driven or (ii) a frequency at which sensing of the touch panel (2) is carried out.
