    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a feed and a method for improving body weight gain and feed efficiency in livestock. SOLUTION: The body weight gain efficiency and feed efficiency of a piglet is improved by adding an additive comprising nucleic acid and glutamic acid to a livestock feed so that the nucleic acid is 0.05-1.0 wt.% per feed weight, the glutamic acid is 0.5-2.0 wt.% per feed weight, and the added amount of the additive comprising the nucleic acid and the glutamic acid is 0.55-3.0 wt.% per feed weight.     • PURPOSE: To prepare L-tryptophan inexpensively by direction fermantation method, by cultivating a bacterium belonging to the genus Bacillus having sensitivity to L-histidine, and tryptophan analog resistance.
      CONSTITUTION: A bacterium belonging to the genus Bacillus, having tryptophan analog resistance, capable of producing tryptophan, as a parent strain, is subjected to variation treatment, and a colony is formed on a complete medium. The colony is cultivated in the minimum medium containing L-histidine, and the colony not growing in the medium is selected to give the variant of this invention. The variant is cultivated in a medium containing a carbon source, nitrogen source, inorganic salt, and a very small amount of organic nutrient by shaking culture, to give a large amount of L-tryptophan. The cultivation is carried out at 20W40°C at 5W9pH for 1W4 days.

      CONSTITUTION: Bacillus subtilis having resistance to tryptophan analogues, capable of producing tryptophan, as a parent strain, is subjected to variation, to give Bacillus subtilis FT-145 (FERM-P 1783), Bacillus subtilis FFL-5 (FERM-P 1786), Bacillus subtilis AJ 11483 (FERM-P 5216) having resistance to cinnamic acid or hydrocinnamic acid. When these bacteria are cultivated aerobically, a large amount of L-tryptophan is accumulated.
