    • A system for providing a plurality of process cartridges for developing with marking particles a latent image with common components is provided. The system includes a housing and a member mounted to the housing for advancing the marking particles toward the latent image. The system also includes a first pan securable to the housing and defining a first cavity therebetween. The first cavity defines a first volume. The system also includes a second pan securable to the housing and defining a second cavity therebetween. The second cavity defines a second volume substantially different than the first volume.     • An electrostatographic process cartridge detachably mountable into a cavity defined by mated modules forming parts of an electrostatographic reproduction machine having a copy-volume capacity limited by a waste toner sump capacity. The process cartridge includes an elongate housing having walls defining a process chamber; and a rotatable endless photoreceptive member mounted within the process chamber and to the housing. The photoreceptive member has an image bearing surface for holding a formed toner image, a conductive layer, and a closed loop path within the process chamber. The process cartridge also includes a high voltage electrostatographic charging device mounted to the elongate frame and along the closed loop path for applying a layer of electrostatic charge to the image bearing surface of the photoreceptive member; mechanisms for forming on, and transferring from, the image bearing surface, a toner image; and mechanisms for transferring the formed toner image onto a substrate. Importantly, the process cartridge includes a waste toner electro-sump subassembly mounted to an end of the elongate housing for receiving and containing waste toner removed and transported thereto by a cleaning subassembly. The waste toner electro-sump subassembly has an elbow shape including an upper arm portion and a generally horizontal forearm portion. The forearm portion includes an extendible distal end, and a near end having electrical harnessless contacts and connectors formed therein, thereby allowing adaptation of the electro-sump subassembly, at the distal end, for use in various copy volume machines within a family of machines, without affecting the critical electrical and functional interfaces, at the near end, with other subassemblies of the cartridge module.

    • An electrostatographic process cartridge detachably mountable into a cavity defined by mated modules forming parts of an electrostatographic reproduction machine. The process cartridge includes an elongate housing having walls defining a front end of the process cartridge, a rear end thereof, and a process chamber; a rotatable endless photoreceptive member having a closed loop path within the process chamber, and an image bearing surface for holding a formed toner image, and being mounted within the process chamber and towards the rear end for contacting a toner image receiving sheet moving along a machine sheet path for toner image transfer. The process cartridge also includes plural electrostatographic process components located along the closed loop path for forming a toner image on, and transferring such toner image from, the image bearing surface to the sheet of paper, a cleaning component for removing and transporting waste toner from the image bearing surface, and a waste toner sump subassembly mounted to an end of the elongate housing for receiving and containing waste toner removed and transported thereto by the cleaning component. Importantly, the process cartridge includes a module handle attached to the rear end thereof for gripping and use by an operator for inserting and removing the process cartridge from the defined cavity, and forming a part of the machine sheet path for contacting and guiding a sheet of paper moving from the photoreceptive member.

    • An electrostatographic process cartridge detachably mountable into a cavity defined by mated modules forming parts of an electrostatographic reproduction machine. The process cartridge includes a housing having walls defining a partially enclosed process chamber; a rotatable cylindrical photoreceptive member mounted within a portion of the process chamber and to the walls. The cleaning subassembly includes a curved portion of the walls including a blade mounting surface having a plane forming a blade mounting angle with a tangent to the image bearing surface; a cleaning blade mounted to the mounting surface and having a cleaning edge contacting the image bearing surface at a desired cleaning angle for removing waste toner from the image bearing surface; a seal member mounted into contact with the image bearing surface at a point upstream of the cleaning blade so that the seal member, the blade, the image bearing surface and the curved portion of the walls, define the cleaning chamber; and a troughless waste toner transporting auger mounted for rotation without a trough and directly over the image bearing surface within the cleaning chamber for transporting and moving waste toner axially relative to the photoreceptive member and out of the cleaning chamber. The troughless auger has a first end, a second end, and a direction of waste toner movement over the image bearing surface from the first end to the second end a variable pitch for preventing image banding defects from undesirable waste toner accumulations.

    • A developer unit for developing a latent image with marking particles is provided. The developer unit includes a housing defining a chamber for storing a supply of marking particles therein. The developer unit also includes an advancing member for advancing the marking particles on a surface thereof from the chamber of the housing in a first direction toward the latent image. The developer unit also includes a first regulating member for charging the marking particles and for regulating the thickness of the layer of marking particles on the surface of the advancing member. The developer unit also includes a second regulating member spaced from the first regulating member. The second regulating member serves to at least one of charge the layer of marking particles on the surface of the advancing member and regulate the thickness of the layer of marking particles on the surface of the advancing member. The second regulating member is adapted cooperate with the advancing member to charge the marking particles on the surface of the advancing member so as to reduce ghosting when developing the latent image with the marking particles.
