    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for controlling the retraction of a device conveyed on a movable member operated by an electric motor after a sudden power failure.
      SOLUTION: The controller is provided with a measurement circuit for measuring a reverse electromotive force from an electric motor in measurement phase. The controller is further provided with a controller for receiving an actual speed, and supplies a command signal for controlling the size of a driving current based on an instructed speed and the actual speed of a movable member. The controller is yet further provided with a current control loop for supplying a command current signal based on a current supplied to the electric motor and the command signal, and supplying a driving current to the electric motor in a driving phase based on the command current signal.

      SOLUTION: The controller is provided with a measurement circuit having an output including the addition of a measurement circuit offset voltage to a reverse electromotive force (reverse EMF) from an electric motor in measurement phase. The controller further includes an offset removal circuit connected to the output of the measuring circuit. The reverse EMF from the electric motor is output from the output of the offset removal circuit. A driver circuit is connected to the terminal of the electric motor, and supplies a driving current of a size based on the reverse EMF from the electric motor to the electric motor in a driving phase.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide architecture for providing power to a VCM to retract a transducing head from a surface of recordable medium during loss of power.
      SOLUTION: A retract circuit (52) stores back electromotive force of a spindle motor (54) and shifts it to a capacitor (66) supplying power to the VCM (56). The capacitor is connected to a power switch circuit, the power switch circuit supplies power to the VCM from the capacitor when the power switch circuit is in a conducting state, and prevents power from being supplied to the VCM by the capacitor when the power switch circuit is in a non-conducting state. The retract circuit supplies a signal to the power switch circuit dictating whether the power switch circuit is in the conducting state or the non-conducting state. The retract circuit operates to alternate the power switch circuit between the conducting state and the non-conducting state at a set frequency, resulting in power being provided from the capacitor to the VCM at this frequency.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control circuit for controlling a current through a voice coil motor (VCM) when a conversion head is retracted from the surface of a recordable medium.
      SOLUTION: A conversion head is conveyed on a movable member operated by a VCM. The control circuit is provided with a measurement circuit for measuring a reverse electromotive force (reverse EMF) from a VCM. This control is further provided with a driver circuit connected to the terminal of the VCM to supply a driving current of a size based on the reverse EMF from the VCM to the VCM. The control circuit is yet further provided with a chip clock for alternately executing measuring of the reverse EMF from the VCM and supplying of the driving current of a random frequency within a frequency range centering on a median frequency to the VCM.
