    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical modulator which can simultaneously suppress the secondary nonlinear distortion and the third nonlinear distortion.
      SOLUTION: The laser driver 6 receives the ratio I1/I2 showing the nonlinear distortion of the laser beam LB3 from the distortion detector 5 and receives RF current from a voltage/current converter 3. The laser driver 6 determines the center wavelength of the laser beam LB1, which the laser light source 1 emits, based on the ratio I1/I2 so that the optical filter 4 has a transmissivity to suppress the nonlinear distortion in the relation between the output of the optical modulator 2 and the RF voltage, and drives the laser light source 1 to emit the laser beam LB1 of the wavelength changing in proportion to the determined center wavelength and the RF current. The laser light source 1 emits the laser beam LB1. The optical modulator 2 converts the transmission intensity of the laser beam LB1 to make it proportional to the RF voltage to output the laser beam LB2. The optical filter 4 suppresses the nonlinear distortion of the laser beam LB2 by its own transmissivity characteristics.
