摘要： A display includes a backlight (40). In addition, the display includes for each of at least one wavelength band, a plurality of layers placed above the backlight (40). The plurality of layers includes an absorption layer (13,23,33), a luminescent layer (14,24,34) and a reflective layer (15,25,35). The absorption layer (12,22,32) is capable of absorbing light in a wavelength band while being substantially transparent to light in other wavelength bands. The luminescent layer (14,24,34) is capable, in response to light from the backlight (40), of emitting light within the wavelength band. The reflective layer (15,25,35) is adapted to reflect light in the wavelength band while being substantially transparent to light in other wavelength bands.

摘要： A method of manufacturing a cell wall assembly for an electro-optic display device with greyscale capability comprises: forming on a substantially planar surface of a transfer carrier, at least one dielectric structure; forming on said at least one dielectric structure at least one electrode structure; wherein said dielectric structure extends in a direction perpendicular to said surface by a distance which varies substantially within the area of the or each electrode structure; adhering said at least one electrode structure to a major surface of a substrate of glass or a plastics material; and removing the transfer carrier. Other aspects of the invention include the cell wall assembly, a device with greyscale capability, a method of manufacturing the device, and the transfer carrier.

摘要： A liquid crystal device comprises first and second opposed spaced-apart cell walls enclosing a layer of a liquid crystal material. Electrodes are provided on at least one cell wall for applying an electric field across at least some of the liquid crystal material. The first cell wall is provided with a first surface layer substantially comprising a polymerised aligned mesogenic material, which surface layer is in contact with the liquid crystal material. Preferably the alignment of the polymerised mesogenic material is substantially uniform across substantially the entire area of the display. The inner surface of the second cell wall may be provided with a similar second surface layer, preferably wherein the anchoring energy and/or order parameter of the liquid crystal adjacent the two surface layers is different.
