摘要： A method for treating a bone body comprises inserting a probe having at least one active electrode into the target tissue and applying a voltage difference between an active electrode and return electrode to ablate the tissue. The method is particularly directed to removing tumors in a bone body and or removing cancellous bone in a bone body. The bone body may be a vertebral body. An apparatus includes a plurality of active electrodes and a distal section including two bends. The bends serve to prevent the active electrodes from impinging upon the shaft of an introducer needle. Also, a kit includes an electrosurgical probe, an electrosurgical generator, an introducer needle, and a fluid connector to connect the introducer needle to a fluid source such that liquid may be supplied to the target site during an application.

摘要： The present invention provides systems (11), methods for selectively applying electrical energy to a target location within the head, the neck of a patient's body, particularly including tissue in the ear, nose and throat. The present invention includes a channeling technique in which small holes or channels are formed within tissue structures in the mouth, such as the tonsils, tongue, palate and uvula. Thermal energy is applied to the tissue surface immediately surrounding these holes or channels to cause thermal damage to the tissue surface, thereby stiffening the surrounding tissue structure. Applicant has discovered that such stiffening of certain tissue structures in the mouth, and throat helps to prevent the tissue structure from obstructing the patient's upper airway during sleep.

摘要： The present invention provides systems, and methods for selectively applying electrical energy to a target location within the head, and neck of a patient's body, particularly including tissue in the ear, nose and throat. The present invention applies high frequency (RF) electrical energy to one or more electrode terminals (104) in the presence of electrically conductive fluid to remove, and/or modify the structure of tissue structures. Depending on the specific procedure, the present invention may be used to volumetrically remove tissue (i.e., ablate or effect molecular dissociation of the tissue structure), shrink or contract collagen connective tissue, and/or coagulate severed blood vessels. For example, the present invention may be useful for ablation, and hemostasis of tissue in sinus surgery (e.g., chronic sinusitis or the removal of turbinates, polypectomies), collagen shrinkage, ablation, hemostasis in procedures for treating snoring, and obstructive sleep apnea (e.g., soft palate, such as the uvula, or tongue/pharynx stiffening, and midline glossectomies), for gross tissue removal, such as tonsillectomies, adenoidectomies, tracheal stenosis, vocal cord polyps, and lesions; or for the resection or ablation of facial tumors or tumor with the mouth, the pharynx such as glossectomies, laryngectomies, acoustic neuroma procedures, and nasal ablation procedures.

摘要： Electrosurgical methods, systems, and apparatus for the controlled ablation of tissue from a target site of a patient. An electrosurgical instrument includes a working portion having a plurality of working zones differentiated according to their relative rates of aspiration and ablation. The instrument (1400) further includes an aspiration channel in communication with a plurality of aspiration ports (1440), and a plurality of active electrodes disposed on the working portion. Each of the plurality of working zones may have at least one of the plurality of active electrodes and at least one of the plurality of aspiration ports. The aspiration rate of each working zone is dependent, inter alia, on the number, size, and distribution of the aspiration ports on that zone. In one embodiment, the ablation rate of a working zone is inversely related to the aspiration rate of that zone. Each of the plurality of active electrodes is adapted for ablating tissue to form low molecular weight ablation by-products. The ablation by-products may be aspirated from the target site via aspiration port(s) on one or more of the plurality of working zones.

摘要： The present invention provides systems and methods for selectively applying electrical energy to a target location within the gastrointestinal tract, such as the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). In one aspect of the invention, high frequency voltage is applied between the electrode terminal (504) and one or more return electrode (506) to remove a small tissue segment, channel or hole from the region near or in the LES to shrink the turbinates and prevent swelling. The high frequency voltage may be selected to effect a small amount of thermal damage to the walls of the channel or hole to facilitate the formation of scar tissue without extending the thermal damage beyond the immediate region of the target site. In another aspect, the high frequency voltage is selected to contract collagen fibers within the LES to improve its tone, thereby reducing the frequency of reflux.
