The electronic device further comprising a display (1090a) positioned between the first glass sheet (1050a) and the second glass sheet (1050b) and configured to provide a graphical output through the first glass sheet.     • An electronic device (10) such as a portable computer may be provided with a lower housing (12B) and an upper housing (12A). The electronic device may include hinge structures (20) which allow the upper housing to rotate about a rotational axis relative to the lower housing. The electronic device may include a ventilation port structure (40A, 40B, 40C) with intake openings that allow air to be drawn into the electronic device. The ventilation structure may also include exhaust openings that are used to expel air from the lower housing. When the electronic device is in an open position, it may be desirable for the ventilation structure to form more exhaust openings than when the electronic device is in a closed position. The ventilation structure may form lower exhaust openings when the electronic device is in the closed position and form upper and lower exhaust openings when the electronic device is in the open position.

    • Variable friction clutch structures are described. In particular embodiments, the variable friction clutch structures are used to provide smooth and consistent movement of hinge assemblies of portable computers. The variable friction clutch can be configured to transition between a high frictional resistance mode and a low frictional resistance mode. In some embodiments, the variable friction clutches include cam systems. In some embodiments, the variable friction clutches include threaded shaft systems. In some embodiments, the variable friction clutches include mechanical linkage systems. In some embodiments, two or more variable friction clutches are included within a single hinge assembly for a portable computer. A space-saving wire clutch that can be used alone or in combination with the variable friction clutches is disclosed.
