F e e d i n g openers, carding- engines, &c.-In machines for preparing wool and like fibres, the sheet of fibres delivered bv one machine is transferred direct to the feed apron of the next machine and is laid thereon in folds bv a swinging frame 17 mounted in a fixed frame f. The fibres are delivered from the machine A bv rollers 2, 3 to endless aprons 8, 9 which pass round rollers 5, 10, 12, 11, and 6, 11, 14, 13 respectively. The frame 17 is pivoted at 16 on the frame f and is swung by cranks 22 over the feed apron 25 of the machine B. The sheet of material may be severed at the folds by a rod 27 carried by arms 28 and operated by stops 32 , 34 when the frame 17 comes to the ends of its path. The rollers 12, 14 may move in an horizontal path over the apron 25, runners on the rollers 12 engaging the edges of the trough 26. In this case, to enable the belts 8, 9 to preserve their tension, the rollers 10, 11, 13 are carried on the swinging frame.

摘要： 108,684. Anderton, H. F., and Bailey, G. Sept. 13, 1916. Endless - b a n d conveyers, fibrous materials carried on. - Hanks or skeins of yarn &c. are carried through a drying chamber e between two series o, o of endless tapes or bands which pass round perforated drums a through which heated air is forced. The drums are mounted in bearings at one end only and are driven by gearing. Air supplied by a fan h passes over heating pipes arranged in a chamber adjacent to the chamber e, enters the open ends of cylinders and escapes by the perforations through the hanks. The lower tapes &c. extend outside the chamber e at o and o to facilitate feeding and discharge of the materials. The air may, if desired, be returned to the fan so as to move in a cycle. The drying-apparatus may be used in conjunction with scouring or like machines.

Travelling - band type. - In apparatus for scouring or treating yarns &c., the series of endless tapes carrying the hanks &c. are arranged so as to extend beyond the vat only after passing between squeezing-rollers, and to be at other parts entirely within the vat. By this arrangement the tapes are kept clean, and do not carry liquor away from the vat. In the apparatus shown, the two sets of tapes f, g, between which the hanks are carried, are supported at the entry end of the vat on rollers c, d in the same horizontal plane, the roller c being in advance of the roller d so as to form a space q on which the hanks are placed. The hanks are carried by the tapes through the liquor, and pass between pairs of spring-pressed rollers m, m and k, k , which assist in the scouring of the materials. The tapes then pass between squeezing rollers b, b , and are separated by guide - rollers p, p' extending beyond the vat, the hanks being discharged on to a table r. The rollers c, d are mounted in adjustable bearings so that the tension on the tapes may be varied. The tapes may be kept separate by a comb-like guide s, or by cross-tapes secured to them, and the ends of these cross-tapes may be secured to guide-ropes running in grooves on the rollers.
