The neck and footstep bearings are provided with ball-races so constructed as to diminish friction and take up lateral or other strains incidental to spinning, while means are provided for the efficient lubrication of the bearings. Fig. 1 shows a neck bearing in which an oil-cup A is secured to the spindle and forms or contains the lower ball-race A', while the upper ball-race is formed by an inverted tube C' fitting loosely over the spindle B. The bearing is adjusted by a cup C' which may be screwed on, formed with, or pressed by, the tube C', and which may be adjustably secured in the neck rail C by any suitable means. Lubrication is effected by means of an annular recess C' formed on the tube C'. Fig. 3 shows a footstep bearing in which, instead of the usual conical step, one ball-race is formed by, or consists of a ring carried by, the upper end of the reduced part B of the spindle B, while the other ball-races D , D are carried by a shell D and held in place by a screwed cap D . The bearing is stated to assist the neck bearing in resisting the upward strains incidental to spinning.
