    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the generation of low frequency noise just before the stop of a vehicle even when a disc pad is wetted by the water, by stirring and mixing a fiber base material, a friction adjusting material, a binding material and a water repellent agent, and thermally molding the same. SOLUTION: The aromatic polyamide fiber and the like as heat-resisting organic fiber, copper fiber, steel fiber and like as metallic fiber, and glass fiber, rock wool and the like as inorganic fiber are respectively used as a fiber base material. Alumina silica and the like are used as a friction adjusting material, a phenol resin, a polyimidoamide resin and the like are used as a binding material, and fluorine polymer and the like such as polytetrafluoroethylene, polyvinylidene fluoride and the like are used as the water repellent agent. A ratio thereof is 7-23 vol.% of fiber base material, 47-55 vol.% of friction adjusting material and 15-25 vol.% of binding material (100 vol.% in total), and 0.2-3 pts.wt. to 100 pts.wt. in total, of the water repellent agent is blended. These materials are stirred and mixed, premolded, and then thermally molded. Whereby, the generation of low frequency noise just before the stop of a vehicle can be prevented even when a disc pad is wetted by the water.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a friction material having good fading resistance and effectively reduced in the production of a creep goo sound upon moisture absorption or upon being wetted with water by using a material containing an aramid pulp or fiber coated with a water-impermeable resin. SOLUTION: Provided is a friction material prepared by coating an aramid pulp or fiber with a water-impermeable resin such as an epoxy resin or a polyimide resin in an aramid pulp or fiber/water-impermeable resin ratio of 99/1 to 94/6 by weight. As for the composition, it is desirable that the friction material comprises 15-25 vol.% thermosetting resin binder such as a phenolic resin, 8-15 vol.% coated aramid pulp or fiber, 2-8 vol.% reinforcing fiber such as a copper fiber, 47-55 vol.% friction modifier such as alumina or silica, and 8-18 vol.% lubricant such as graphite or molybdenum disulfide. The reinforcing fibers are exemplified by heat-resistant organic fibers, ceramic fibers, glass fibers, carbon fibers, and metallic fibers.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a friction material that causes no deterioration in the friction effect at high speed and in the resistance to fade due to gas occurrence, even when the gas is emitted by thermal decomposition of the friction material by the friction heat, by using a specific fiber base material, a binder and a friction-adjusting material. SOLUTION: The objective friction material is obtained by using (A) a fiber base material containing (i) hollow fiber or multi-void fiber that has hollow or multi-porous cross section and, when necessary, (ii) other fiber base material, (B) a binder and (C) a friction-adjusting material. The cross section of the hollow part is round, double-eyed, C-shaped, four-eyed, O-shaped, or the like. The multi-voided fiber has a plurality of cracks running in each filament having the cross section that is hollow at its center and has plurality of gaps radially divided with the cracks. As a material for the component (i), are cited aramid fibers and the like.
