摘要： L-Glutamic acid is prepared by first sterilising, by heating, a basal medium containing at least one assimilable carbon compound, at least one assimilable nitrogen compound and at least essential inorganic ions, treating such medium with from 5g to 100g per litre of 7,8-diaminopelargonic acid or a salt thereof (which has been sterilised if necessary), and subjecting such medium to aerobic fermentation using an L-glutamic acid producing bacteria belonging to the genus Brevibacterium, Corynebacterium, Microbacterium or Micrococcus. The basal medium may also contain thiamine and/or one or more of the compounds 8-keto-7-amino-pelargonic acid, 8-amino-7-keto-pelargonic acid, 7,8-diketo-pelargonic acid and 8-hydroxy-7-amino-pelargonic acid. Specified bacteria are Brevibacterium kawasakii, flavum, lactofermentum, roseum, immariophilium, saccharolyticum, aquapile and divaricatum. Specifications 873,448 and 876,943 also are referred to.

The invention comprises the novel compounds N - 4 - nitrophenoxyacetyl - 4 - nitrophenylalanine, N - furfurylphenylalanine, N - # - naphthylaminomethylalanine, N - # - - naphthylaminomethylmethionine, N - (# - naphthylaminomethyl) - 6 - aminocaproic acid, N-2- fluorenesulphonyl - # - alanine, N - 2 - fluorensulphonylvaline, and N-2-fluorenesulphonyl-4- nitrophenylalanine and salts thereof. The first named compound and the last three compounds are prepared by the Sohotten-Baumann reaction. The second compound is obtained by reacting furfural with phenylalanine in an aqueous medium in the presence of sodium borohydride. The third, fourth and fifth compounds are made by reacting #-naphthylamine with the appropriate amino acids in the presence of formaldehyde. 4-Nitrophenoxyacetyl chloride is obtained by refluxing 4-nitrophenoxyacetic acid with thionyl chloride. Pharmaceutical compositions having anti-viral activity and suitable for oral or parenteral administration, contain at least one of the above novel compounds or salts thereof and pharmaceutically-acceptable carriers or diluents therefor.
