    • A navigation apparatus (14) includes a current position detector (15) that detects a current position and at least one controller (17). The at least one controller determines the administrative district where the current position is located, searches for at least one facility within each of a plurality of administrative districts that are substantially adjacent to the administrative district where the current position is located, and assigns each adjacent administrative district to a selection area (fj) on a search screen based on the direction from the current position to each facility within the plurality of adjacent administrative districts. A touch screen having buttons (k1-9; k11-19) may be formed to represent the positional relationships between the current position and the adjacent administrative districts and enable the user to easily input commands for searching desired destination locations.

    • Navigation systems for drivers and other travelers may preferably include search criteria definition means (14, 16, 31, 61, 71, 74) for defining a first search criterion concerning a travel route and a second search criterion concerning a travel time period. Search means (14, 31, 61, 62, 71) may be provided for searching, or initiating a search of, a route according to the first search criterion and the second search criterion. Further, storing means (14, 31, 61, 71) may be provided for storing route guidance data concerning a searched route in a storage medium (16, 74). Such navigation systems enable the driver/user to travel along an optimal route in accordance with the route guidance data, e.g., even if an originally scheduled travel time period is suddenly changed.

    • A screen formation system includes: a vehicle condition determination processing unit that is adapted to determine a vehicle condition; a candidate screen map in which the vehicle condition and a candidate screen which have been interrelated are recorded, the candidate screen representing a screen (g2, g4) that is highly likely to be formed next after a current screen (g1, g3, g5) on the basis of the vehicle condition; a candidate screen acquisition processing unit that is adapted to acquire the candidate screen corresponding to the vehicle condition by referring to the candidate screen map; an off-screen drawing processing unit that is adapted to draw the acquired candidate screen as an off-screen (g2, g4) while the current screen (g1, g3 ,g5) is formed in a display unit 35; and a screen formation processing unit that is adapted to form the off-screen (g2, g4) in the display unit 35 on the basis of an instruction for a screen change from the current screen (g1, g3 ,g5) made by an operator. The candidate screen corresponding to the determined vehicle condition is acquired by referring to the candidate screen map, and the acquired candidate screen is drawn as an off-screen (g2, g4). Thus, the response of the display can be surely improved.
