    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely suppress sticking and deposition of PM to the exhaust gas inlet part of an exhaust gas purification catalyst while evading inconvenience of the decline of cleaning performance and strength. SOLUTION: A straight flow type exhaust gas purification catalyst 20 disposed on the exhaust gas upstream side inside the exhaust gas purifier is provided with a plurality of straight cells 21 which is extended in an axial direction and through which exhaust gas is distributed, and a straight cell partition wall 22 for sectioning the respective straight cells 21. The straight cell partition wall 22 has an introduction acceleration part 60 for accelerating the introduction of the exhaust gas into the respective straight cells 21 at the end part on the exhaust gas inlet side. The introduction acceleration part 60 comprises an inclined opening 61 inclined in the axial direction and formed at the exhaust gas inlet part of the respective straight cells 21 and an inclined end face 62 inclined in the axial direction and formed on the end face on the exhaust gas inlet side of the straight cell partition wall 22. When the pressure in the filter introduction part 100 rises, exhaust gas flows through the filter bypassing part 200, so that the pressure loss can be restrained from increasing. PM is collected by the catalyst layer formed in the through-hole 4 and the collected PM is efficiently burned since the catalyst layer is heated uniformly and the catalytic metal is also activated uniformly. In the catalytic converter, a surface pressure of 0.8-1.2 MPa is exerted on an inflow side range between 0.04 L and 0.06 L from the gas inflow end in the substrate 1, and a surface pressure of 0.3-0.6 MPa is exerted on a center range between 0.2 L and 0.25 L toward both a gas inflow end side and a gas outflow end side from 0.5 L that is the center of the substrate.

SOLUTION: The filter catalyst is formed by alternately layering a corrugated sheet and a flat sheet which are composed of a metallic sheet. This filter catalyst has an inflow-side cell 12 plugged on the downstream side of exhaust gas and an outflow-side cell 13 plugged on the upstream side of exhaust gas. A through-hole 14 is formed on at least one of the corrugated sheet 10 and the flat sheet 11 by penetrating the front and back of the corrugated sheet and/or the flat sheet. The diameter of the through-hole 14 is reduced to ≤200 μm or the through-hole is plugged by a catalyst layer 3. PM can be collected by the catalyst layer 3 formed in the through-hole 14. The catalyst layer 3 can be formed uniformly and the collected PM can be efficiently oxidatively burned.
