    • 1410539 Micro-fiche readers CUBIC INDUSTRIAL CORP 23 May 1973 [17 July 1972] 24666/73 Heading G2J A micro-fiche reader has means for moving the fiche table in X and Y directions comprising a pair of fixed orthogonal guide rods each having a block member slidably mounted thereon, each block member having a positioning rod extending therefrom perpendicular to the respective guide rod, a follower block being slidably mounted on both the positioning rods, and a fiche-engaging clamp secured to the follower block. As shown, a microfiche card 5 is supported on a table 54 having an aperture 56 through which light passes. Light from the source 58 is reflected by a mirror 60 through card 50 and a magnifying lens system 62, to be reflected from a further mirror 64 on to a display screen 10. The card is gripped by a jaw assembly 66 connected to a follower block member 68 below the table 54. Follower block 68 can slide in two mutually perpendicular directions along rods 70 and 72. These are connected to further block members 74, 76 respectively, which themselves slide on rods 78, 80. Rod 70 is supported at its other end by a roller 82 running in a channel member 84. The movement of block 68 is controlled by the movement of blocks 74, 76 in the X and Y directions, and it has a pin 85 extending downwards into a guiding aperture (87, 89, 91) Fig. 4, (not shown). Blocks 74, 76 are moved by belts 86, 88 bolted thereto, the belts passing round drive rollers 90, 92, and idler rollers 94, 96. Rollers 90, 92 are driven by motors 102, 104, so that suitable control of the motors can produce any required X, Y movement of the fiche, to bring a particular frame into position for viewing. The position of this frame in relation to the fiche as a whole can be indicated on a chart 18 having a grid pattern corresponding to the fiche. A beam of light from a source 106 is reflected from a condensing mirror 108 to fall on the chart 18. The mounting of source 106 and block 108 is linked to block 76 and block 68 so that mirror 108 follows the X, Y movement of the fiche, and so indicates the location of the fiche frame (e.g. as at 110) which is'being viewed. This frame may be selected automatically from a keyboard 16, or manually by means of a joy-stick control 20. The fiche may be firmly located against a transparent platen by air-pressure Fig. 13, (not shown).
