    • Embodiments of the present invention provide a pool condition monitoring device (50) comprising a hermetically sealable housing (52) having a floor (54) defining a lower external surface (56) of the housing. A sensing probe (60) depends from the lower external surface of the housing, for immersion in water (18) in the pool along a part of the length of the probe. An electronic circuit (7) and power source is within the housing, the electronic circuit including a telemetry device (120), suitable to connect the device to a remote system via a local area wireless network or a mobile telephone station. The sensing probe (60) is adapted to return a value to the electronic circuit depending on the degree of immersion of the probe in water, and thereby to indicate a fill level of the pool. The probe is sized to pass through a circular hole (40) of less than 3 cm in diameter in a lid (26) of a pool overspill sump (22), whereby the device can be supported by the lower external surface of the housing on the lid. The sump (22) is arranged with respect to the pool such that water in the sump is at the level (20) of water in the pool, the sump including a drain (38) from which water may be drawn for cleaning purposes and return elsewhere to the pool.

    • A luminaire is providing, having a substrate of a particular shape and a plurality of solid state light sources mounted thereon. The plurality has a measurable characteristic and includes an adjustable solid state light source, such that the characteristic changes in response to adjustment thereof. The luminaire also includes a sensor that detects the characteristic from outputted light, compares it to a baseline value and, based on the comparison, so adjusts the adjustable solid state light source. The luminaire also includes a reflector with a lower edge that conforms to the particular shape of the substrate, and reflects outputted light from the plurality so that it exits past the reflector's upper edge. The luminaire also includes a lightguide having an input that is surrounded by the reflector and captures a portion of the outputted light so as to provide the captured outputted light to the sensor.

    • The instant disclosure is directed to methods and devices for passing suture bi-directionally using a hybrid approach. Embodiments of a method described herein include steps of advancing a suture at least partially through tissue; and retrieving the suture; wherein one of the steps of advancing and retrieving comprises manipulating the suture directly, and wherein the other step of advancing and retrieving comprises manipulating a suture trap to which the suture is coupled. Embodiments of a device that may be used to practice the method embodiments include a bi- directional suture passer having a proximal portion for holding a portion of a suture therein; a distal tip coupled to the proximal portion and defining a tissue receiving gap there-between; a reciprocally moveable suture passing member housed within the proximal portion for translating the suture portion between the proximal portion and the distal tip; and a suture trap operable to be detachably coupled to the distal tip for capturing the suture passed by the suture passing member.
