    • An optical fiber connector (100) is provided, which comprises: a housing (112) configured to mate with a receptacle; a gripping device (140) to grip an optical fiber (135), the gripping device (140) including a fiber gripping element (142) and an actuating cap (144) configured to engage the gripping element (142); a collar body (120) disposed in the housing (112), wherein the collar body (120) includes a ferrule (132) securely disposed in an opening (121) of the collar body (120), the ferrule (132) including a central bore that defines an axis, and a housing portion (123) disposed in a generally central portion of the collar body (120) and having an opening (122) to receive the gripping device (140), wherein the gripping element (142) comprises a ductile material having a focus hinge that couples first and second element arms and wherein a first portion of the gripping element (142) includes a fiber gripping channel to clamp an optical fiber (135) received therein upon actuation by the actuating cap (144); a backbone (116) to retain the collar body (120) within the housing (112), the backbone (116) including a fiber jacket clamping portion (119) to clamp a jacket portion (136) of the optical fiber (135); and a boot (180) attachable to a portion of the backbone (116), wherein the boot (180) actuates the fiber jacket clamping portion (119) of the backbone (116) upon attachment to the backbone (116).
