    • PURPOSE: A method for washing or hydrating ophthalmic devices and an apparatus thereof are provided to subject as many lenses as possible to hydration in the most efficient manner using the least water possible by arraying the apparatus in such a manner that fluid for hydrating or washing flows from a high degree washing ophthalmic device toward a low degree washing ophthalmic device. CONSTITUTION: The fluid is directed to and flows generally downwardly from a passage(21) and/or a passage(32) into a cavity(29). A central orifice of a top chamber insert(38) is in register with the lens(24) in the cavity of each lower tray in the vertical column of trays. Accordingly, the fluid flows onto, over, and around the lens, over a front curve mold(22), through one or more openings in the top chamber insert of the tray above, through flow passage, across a filter screen(36) through a central portion(28) of the cavity and to and through the top chamber insert of each cavity. As a result, the ophthalmic devices perpendicularly stacked on the columns can be hydrated and washed by the same fluid.
