    • An external light shielding sheet and a plasma display apparatus having the same are provided to effectively implement a black image by positioning an external light shielding sheet on a front surface of a display panel. A plasma display apparatus includes a plasma display panel and an external light shielding sheet which is positioned on a front surface of the panel and shields the light incident from an exterior. The external light shielding sheet has a base portion(320) having a groove, and a pattern portion(325) formed on the groove of the base portion and having index of refraction higher than that of the base portion. A difference of the index of refraction of the base portion and the pattern portion is 0.05 to 0.3.

    • An external light shielding sheet and a plasma display device using the same are provided to form a black image and to improve a bright room contrast by absorbing and shielding the external light. A plasma display device includes a plasma display panel and an external light shielding sheet(610). The external light shielding sheet is positioned on a front surface of the plasma display panel in order to improve a bright room contrast of an image to be displayed. The external light shielding sheet includes a base part(630) and a pattern part(640). The pattern part is formed in a line on the base part. The pattern part has a refractive index smaller than the refractive index of the base part. The refractive index of the pattern part corresponds to 0.3 to 0.99 of the refractive index of the base part.
