    • An apparatus and a method for performing handover in a multi-hop relay broadband wireless communication system are provided to classify a BS(Base Station), in which a serving node and adjacent nodes are included, by using the hierarchical ID(Identification) structure of the BS and a RS(Relay Station), thereby reducing overhead due to handover between nodes connected to the same BS. A method for operating a terminal in a multi-hop relay broadband wireless communication system comprises the following steps of: checking whether a candidate target node list for performing handover is received from a serving node when the handover is performed(609); checking the signal strength and identifier of the candidate target node and the serving node included in the candidate target node list if the candidate target node list is received(611); and selecting a target node by using the identifier and signal strength of the candidate target node and the serving node to perform the handover(615).

    • PURPOSE: A device for managing a dormant state of a wireless packet data system is provided to manage information on PPP(Point-to-Point-Protocol) and IWF(Inter Working Function) of packet service calls with dormant states by a centralized DB(Database), so as to manage locations of packet calls with dormant states in the wireless packet data system and to transmit/receive calls of packet terminals with dormant states in a BSS(Base Station System). CONSTITUTION: A centralized DB(Database)(400) comprises as follows. An interface processor(402) performs interfacing functions for information exchanging with BSCs(Base Station Controllers) within the same cell. A dormant state DB(406) stores dormant state information of terminals, where traffic transmissions/reception processes do not occur for a predetermined time while performing traffic, among terminals within the same cell. A transaction processor(404) retrieves dormant state information corresponding to a predetermined terminal from the dormant state DB(406) by a request of a predetermined BSC through the interface processor(402), and provides the dormant state information to the predetermined BSC or updates the dormant state information stored in the dormant state DB(406) by an update request of the dormant state information from the predetermined BSC.

    • PURPOSE: A mobile IP communication system using dual stack transition mechanism, and a method thereof are provided to continuously execute communication without a drop in even case that a mobile IP is applied in a new network. CONSTITUTION: An access node(211) assigns an IPv6(Internet Protocol Version 6) Internet address, and matches the IPv6 Internet address with an IPv4 Internet address, and assigns the matched IPv4 Internet address to a mobile terminal(212). If update is requested according to change of the access node(211), the access node(211) assigns a new IPv6 Internet address and reports update of a position to the access node assigning the IPv4 Internet address. A relay router(230) receives the IPv6 Internet address and the IPv4 Internet address from the mobile terminal(212) for executing relay packet data between the mobile terminal(212) of an IPv6 Internet network(110) and a specific node of the IPv6 Internet network. If receiving a request for updating the IPv6 Internet address from the mobile terminal(212), the relay router(230) updates the address of the mobile terminal(212) with the newly received IPv6 Internet address. The mobile terminal(212) receives the IPv6 Internet address and the IPv4 Internet address from the access node(211), and reports the IPv6 Internet address and the IPv4 Internet address to the relay router(230) for executing communication with an IP(Internet Protocol) network. If the access node(211) is changed, the mobile terminal(212) newly receives an IPv6 Internet address from the changed access node(221) for reporting the previously assigned addresses and the newly assigned IPv6 address to the relay router(230).
