    • A paper guiding device in a copying apparatus includes, in opposition, a lower guide plate having a main flat portion and an upper guide plate having a main flat portion. A plurality of rising pieces, having top edges and being laterally spaced apart upon the upper side of the main flat portion of the lower guide plate, rise above the lower guide plate and extend in the direction of movement of the copying paper. A plurality of hanging pieces, having lower edges and are laterally spaced apart on the lower side of the main flat portion of the lower guide plate, hang from the upper guide plate and extend in the direction of movement of the copying paper. The top edges and the lower edges define a path of movement of the copying paper while having minimal contact with the paper. A plurality of openings through the upper guide plate and an opening through each of the hanging pieces dissipate heat from the copying paper to substantially prevent the accumulation of moisture on the copying paper and in the improved paper guiding device.

    • A transfer type electrostatic copying apparatus in which the area of a photosensitive member cleaned by a cleaning device reaches an exposure zone simultaneously or prior to the arrival of a movable portion of an optical system or an original carrier at an exposure starting position from a home position thereof. This results in clear and definite copied images being obtained. At the earlier stage at which the movable portion of the optical system or the original carrier starts moving, the photosensitive member is subjected to the cleaning process, and then the exposure process is effected when the movable portion or the original carrier is running stably. Thus, the electrostatic latent image obtained by the exposure are clear and definite and free from undesirable blurs. The photosensitive member is a rotary drum having bosses connected at opposite axial ends thereof which are removably mounted in holder members on the sidewalls of the copying apparatus. A conical-shaped shaft which rotatably supports the drum has a threaded portion thereon which cooperates with a threaded portion in one of the bosses to secure the shaft to the bosses.

    • A method for controlling a copying machine having a copying cycle and fusing device. The fusing device is formed of a rotatable heating roller and a press roller in mutually forcible contact with the heating roller, which fuses a toner image on a copying paper at a fusing temperature upon passage through the rollers. The heating roller is heated to a first temperature above the fusing temperature. The copying cycle is delayed during a first interval of time after the heating roller reaches the first temperature. The copying cycle is set to a wait-reset state after the first time interval. The heating roller is cooled to a second temperature below the fusing temperature and the copying cycle is set to a wait state. The heating roller is heated from the second temperature to the fusing temperature during a second interval of time. The copying cycle is restored to the wait-reset state during the second time interval before the heating roller reaches the fusing temperature. The copying cycle is restored to the wait-reset state before a leading edge of the copying paper reaches the fusing device. In addition, the fusing device is at the fusing temperature when the leading edge passes between the rollers.
