    • A synchronous motor 100 includes a rotor 20 having a permanent magnet 26 on the surface of or inside the rotor, a stator 10 made of a soft magnetic material and having tooth members T1 to T18 and slots S1 to S18, and element coils 11, 12 wound around each of the tooth members T1 to T18 as concentrated windings and arranged in multiple layers along the extending direction of the tooth members T1 to T18. The element coils 11, 12 are provided three coils each for each phase in a circumferential direction to form rotating direction windings 101 to 206 for each phase. For each phase, the rotating direction windings 101 to 206 are displaced from each other by one slot in the rotating direction between adjacent layers. As a result, torque ripples are reduced in motors using concentrated windings.

    • A vehicle air-conditioning system includes electric heating devices to accelerate a rise in temperature of air for heating a passenger compartment by accelerating a rise in temperature of warm water used to heat the air and by directly heating the air. Electric heating devices are built into a heat exchanger for heating so that the devices can release heat into surrounding air through radiating fins. When the system is in a heating operation region and the temperature of warm water available to flow through the heat exchanger is below a set temperature T.sub.2, the electric heating devices are turned on. A blower for blowing heating air into a passenger compartment through the heat exchanger is stopped, and a warm water valve is opened to allow the warm water to flow through the heat exchanger, whereupon heat from the electric heating devices is released through the radiating fins into the warm water inside the heat exchanger. When the temperature of the warm water rises above the set temperature T.sub.2, the blower is started, and heat from the electric heating devices is released through the radiating fins into the air blown by the blower.

    • An engine warming-up apparatus includes a reserve tank integrally provided with a heat insulating device provided in a coolant circuit in which coolant for cooling an internal combustion engine flows. The reserve tank includes a reserve tank body secured to the top of a tank base, a connection pipe for connecting between an outlet pipe of the tank base and the inside of the reserve tank body, and a heat insulating device located-between the tank base and the reserve tank body and covered by the reserve tank body. A degassing pipe is provided at the top of the heat insulating device so as to communicate between the inside of the heat insulating device and the inside of the reserve tank body. A water filling opening of a hot water supply pipe is formed around the top of the inside space of the heat insulating device. In this way, a high temperature coolant is firstly supplied at a cold start, thereby improving warming up performance.
