    • This invention provides a system and method for image signal contrast extension and overflow compensation. The system includes contrast extension and overflow compensation look-up tables, an image gray level boundary determining unit, a contrast extension unit, an overflow judging unit, and an overflow compensation unit. The image gray level boundary determining unit defines a maximum and a minimum among the gray levels of the pixels of an image signal and calculates the difference. The contrast extension unit selects corresponding parameter from the contrast extension table for contrast extension of a given image pixel. The overflow judging unit judges whether the pixels are overflowed. The overflow compensation unit compensates the pixel. When a pixel is overflowed, the overflow compensation unit selects, according to the gray level of the pixel, a corresponding overflow compensation parameter to reduce the gray level to overcome the problem of overflow.

    • The present invention discloses a method and an apparatus for applying a dynamic contrast expansion technique to plasma display panels through performing a gamma conversion for the inputted image to convert the relationship of the brightness and gray level of the inputted image into a linear relation, performing a subtraction for the gray level value of the image to maintain the image at its smallest color deviation, analyzing the image property histogram to compute the maximum gray level and the minimum gray level required for carrying out the image contrast expansion and obtaining an image contrast expansion gain, and adopting an average of several previously inputted image contrast expansion gains and a current image contrast expansion gain as the contrast expansion gain used in the actual contrast expansion gain formula, so as to compute a new outputted gray level value after the image contrast expansion is performed.

    • This invention provides a system and method for image signal contrast extension and overflow compensation.     • A dynamic color temperature and color deviation calibration method is provided for eliminating problems associated with color temperature change and color deviation caused by an emissivity change of red, green and blue phosphor layers of a plasma display panel (PDP). The method comprises the steps of utilizing laws of color matching for calculating an emissivity change of a pixel of the PDP in response to a brightness change of one of red, green, and blue lights emitted by a corresponding one of red, green and blue discharge cells of the PDP through a numeric operation; dynamically adjusting brightness of one of the emitted red, green, and blue lights by increasing or decreasing strength of input video signal of each of the discharge cells; and eliminating a color temperature and a color deviation of the PDP due to an emissivity change. This can render an image having an optimum color purity and color temperature by eliminating adverse effects on PDP due to emissivity change.

    • A gain-determining method for grayscale white balance of a display apparatus comprising a panel is provided. The method first displays a white, a red, a green, and a blue images on the panel respectively and measures the chromatic values and luminance of the images. Next, the chromatic values and luminance of a target white image is inputted. Following, according to the measured chromatic values and luminance of the white, the red, the green and the blue images, a first set of color mixture ratios is calculated. Then, according to the chromatic values and luminance of the target white image and the chromatic values and luminance of the red, the green and the blue images, a second set of color mixture ratios is calculated. Finally, according to the first set and the second set of color mixture ratios, a red gain, a green gain and a blue gain are calculated.
