    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a vector that introduces DNA or RNA into a cell by preparing a surfactant-free latex solution by polymerizing an olefin compound in the presence of chitosan in water.
      SOLUTION: The latex solution comprises a polymer obtained by polymerizing an olefin compound with chitosan in water. A complex is obtained by reacting the polymer with various DNA or RNA. Such a nonviral vector can be stably used since it, unlike a hazardous viral vector, is a safe artificial product. Selectivity for a cell membrane is important for a vector to have an enhanced transformation efficiency. It is necessary that a vector has hydrophobic and hydrophilic domains in order to enhance the transformation efficiency. In particular, it is important to form a latex comprising a copolymer material comprising chitosan and a vinyl monomer.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a drug delivery material feeding a drug to a cell by polymerizing an olefin compound in water using a cationic derivative of polysaccharide to prepare latex solution containing no surfactant and forming a supermolecule complex with a drug.SOLUTION: A latex solution comprises a polymer obtained by polymerizing in water an olefin compound with a cationic derivative of polysaccharide. Further, a complex can be obtained by reacting the same with various kinds of drugs. The drug delivery material thus prepared can be used to achieve stable and safe usage of a drug that would otherwise have adverse effect. Selective permeability of the cell membrane and selective reactivity with substrate in the cell are critical for enhancing drug efficacy. It is also important for the supermolecule to have both hydrophobic and hydrophilic domains for enhancing selective permeability of the cell membrane and achieving the supermolecular property. Specifically, a latex is produced that is made of a copolymer material of cationic polysaccharide and vinyl monomer, and its complex with a drug is then produced. The supermolecular property of the complex is an important factor for selective permeability of the cell membrane and selective reactivity with substrate in the cell. Such drug delivery material is stable and expected to be used for coating, and so a very promising for the industry.
