    • A network device receives, from a remote user device, a requested test that includes test Internet protocol (IP) packets, and converts the test IP packets into hardware test commands. The network device also performs, based on the hardware test commands, the requested test on a component of a network device card to produce hardware test results. The network device further converts the hardware test results into test results in an IP packet format, and provides the tests results in the IP packet format to the remote user device.

    • A system and method for intrusion detection and prevention processing are described. One or more states of a finite state automaton (FSA) stored in a memory may be compressed to form compressed state information. The FSA may include a set of states and defined state transitions for input characters. The compressed state information may include individual entries for the characters having a corresponding state transition to a next state, and a single entry for the values having a corresponding state transition to a common state. Context data may be searched using the compressed state information.

    • In one example, a network device includes a network interface that receives a packet, a storage card that stores session data for monitored network sessions, a plurality of service processing cards that process packets of respective subsets of the network sessions, wherein each of the service processing cards comprises a respective memory to store session data for the respective subset of the network sessions processed by the corresponding service processing card, and a switch fabric coupled to the network interface, the storage card, and the plurality of service processing cards. One or more of the plurality of service cards process the received packet based on the session data stored by the storage card. The one or more of the plurality of service cards retrieve the session data for the network session to which the packet corresponds from the storage card and store the retrieved session data in the respective memory.

    • In general, techniques are described for reducing response times to retrieve content in an intermediate network device. In particular, the intermediate network device receives a packet from a client device of a first network that requests content from a remote network device of a second network, inspects the packet to determine whether the requested content has been previously cached to either of a first and a second memory of the device, issues a request to load the requested content from the second memory to the first memory based on the determination and queues the packet within in the queue. After queuing the packet, the intermediate network device then processes the packet to assemble a response that includes the content from the memory.
