Boring-heads.-A boring-head 4 particularly adapted for reboring the cylinders of automobile and d other engines is screwed onto a threaded portion 2 of the spindle 1 and is provided with guides for cutters 5 which are notched on their upper surfaces to engage a scroll on an adjusting member 8 and are retained by a cover-plate 19. The member 8 has a cone-ended sleeve portion 12 which may be clamped against a conical recess in a member 10 by means of a clamping-ring 11, balls 18 being mounted between the clamping-ring and a shoulder on the sleeve 12. The member 10 carries a pin 13 having limited movement in a slot 14 provided in a member 15 secured to the head. The cutters are set, by means of a scale 17, with the pin 13 in the position which gives full expansion of the head. After clamping the head, the cutters are retracted to a limited extent by rotation of the members 10, 8, the head is inserted in the cylinder to be rebored and the cutters expanded to contact with the cylinder which is then clamped. The head is then withdrawn and the cutters re-set to the adjusted fullexpansion position for the reboring operation.
