An addressing machine comprises a pair of power-driven rollers 42, 43 carrying arcuate elastic pads 44, 45 respectively which press between them the envelope E to be printed and the address plate or card C, power driven means for feeding the envelopes to the rollers, and electro-mechanical means which automatically causes the rollers to rotate by a predetermined amount when the envelope being fed thereto reaches a predetermined positioned. Envelopes E are fed by gravity down a shoot S on to a pair of continuously driven conveyer belts 52 which advance them individually into the nip of rollers 65, 65 which feed the envelope on to a plate 58b. The roller 65 is supplied by rollers 63, 64 with a moistening liquid from a fountain 62a and transfers this to that portion of the upper surface of the envelope which passes beneath it. An address plate is fed by gravity down a shoot S 1 so that it falls face downwards on a plate 58 located above the plate 58b, the central portion of the card overlying an aperture 59 in the plate 58 and the leading edge there of in contact with the pad 45. As the envelope is fed by the rollers 65, 651 below the aperture 59 and into the nip of the pads 44, 45 on the cylinders 42, 43 it contacts a microswitch mounted on the plate 58 which engages a one revolution clutch in the drive to the roller 42. The envelope and plate are thus pressed between the pads 44, 45 and an image is transferred from the plate to the envelope. When the envelope and card emerge from the nip of the pads the former passes beneath the plate 58 where it is deflected into a container as at E 11 by a downward extension 69 of the plate, while the latter is fed along the top of the plate by a roller 61 which delivers it on to a second pair of conveyer belts 57. The drive to the roller 61 and the belts 57 is taken from the cylinder 43 which is driven by gearing from the cylinder 42 and hence is intermittent, depending upon the rate of feed of envelopes to the cylinders 42, 43. The belts 57 deliver the plates to a shoot 82 which directs them into a container.

The device comprises a supportive body, a shelf member, a shelf lip and a securing means. The shelf member is rectangular, having a height similar to the diameter of a steering wheel. A plurality of slots on the body provide for modular securement of a shelf member. A shelf lip is secured to the outer edge of said shelf member and extends upward to restrain movement of items placed thereupon. The device is secured by a pair of hooks that fit over the top of a steering wheel, or alternatively the hooks may be utilized as a support stand to support the device in an upright position on a flat surface.
