Each end of the axle is provided with a sleeve secured or shrunk thereon and serving as a bearing for the wheel, fresh bearing surfaces being brought into action by removing the axle from its guides and replacing it after rotating it through 90‹. The side members 1 of the truck are of inverted channel section connected at one end by a U-shaped frame 3 formed with a turned-up toe-piece 3 , and with wings overhanging the wheels 5. The members 1 are also connected bv cross-bars or tubes 6 which pass through the members 1 and carry distance sleeves 8 between the flanges of each member 1. The legs 18 are mounted between the flanges of the members 1. The squared axle 9 moves, against the action of springs 13a, in guides comprising angle plates 11 secured to cheeks 12 on the frame, the lower ends of the guides being closed by blocks 15, and stop plates 14 being provided to limit the upward movement of the axle. The axle 9 is formed with rounded ends to carry the fixed bearing sleeves 16 which when completely worn out may be stripped off and replaced by new sleeves.

    • A remote-detection system is provided for monitoring changes in permittivity associated with physiological activity of a subject that is free to move. The system includes a source containing an oscillator configured to illuminate tissue of the subject with an electromagnetic signal beam. The system further includes a receiver configured to receive reflections of the electromagnetic signal beam from the subject. The reflections include amplitude variations indicative of motion of the illuminated tissue and amplitude variations indicative of time dependent variations in the permittivity of the illuminated tissue associated with electrical activity of the subject's heart. The system further includes a detector connected to the receiver and configured to extract from the reflected signal beam the variations in amplitude indicative of motion of the illuminated tissue or indicative of time dependent variations in the permittivity of the illuminated tissue associated with the electrical activity of the subject's heart.

    • Systems and methods are disclosed for detecting audible sound and/or the vibration of objects. Embodiments of the present invention are able to detect sound and other vibrations through barriers. One embodiment of the invention includes an RF transmitter configured to generate an RF signal having a frequency of at least 100 MHz and an unmodulated amplitude, an RF receiver configured to receive a reflected RF signal comprising an RF carrier having the same frequency as the generated RF signal that is amplitude modulated by an information signal and a signal processor configured to extract audio frequency information from the amplitude of the reflected RF signal.

    • The improved design of the teeter totter apparatus will allow individuals of varying weight to manually make adjustments to the beam by offsetting it upon its tripod support structure in order to balance themselves. By applying vertical force, the users will be able to create an up and down rocking motion. At the same time, the users will be able to exert a horizontal force to move the apparatus in a horizontal rotational plane around the upstanding support structure. This will induce a vertical and horizontal motion. The combination of these parts are the backbone of the overall structure and are the key to the design of the apparatus.
