    • A radiant conveyor drying system for plant products comprises an input assembly 12, a drying assembly 14 and an exit assembly 16 mechanically fixed to one another. The drying assembly comprises a plurality of drying units 50 with a chamber 60 in layered communication with one another and each unit having a conveyer 54 providing for the passage of product between the respective drying units and a heater assembly 52. Each chamber is defined by a barrier 67 having a triangular cross-section with an apex 76 and sides 74. Each heating assembly comprises a plenum 68 and a heating chamber 70, with each drying unit comprising a burning unit 64 in communication with the heating chamber providing radiant heat to contact the product travelling on the conveyor through the drying unit. Each drying unit further comprises a fan 62 in communication with the plenum to provide for convective air advancing from the plenum to the conveyer via holes (110, fig 5b) of a floor (86). In a first embodiment heat generated by each burning unit is controlled and the conveyer speed is constant, and in a second embodiment each burning unit is controlled and each conveyer speed is independently controlled.

    • A textile card crush roll operating system is driven by a two-speed electric motor completely independent of the main card cylinder driving motor and is provided with starting control means for operating the crush roll motor at slow speed for a pre-determined time according to automatically operable timing means during which interval sliver from the crush rolls is manually fed into an associated coiler and arranged in such a way that tension of the sliver is applied to stop control means which stops operation of the two-speed crush roll motor after the motor is accelerated to its high speed condition under the control of operating control means. Thus if sliver tension is substantially reduced, the crush roll system is automatically shut down.

    • A system according to the present invention provides a radiant conveyor drying system and method of operation. The radiant conveyor drying system generally comprises an input assembly, a drying assembly and an exit assembly mechanically fixed to one another. The drying assembly comprising at least one drying unit in communication with one another to provide for passage of product between the respective drying units and the input assembly and the exit assembly. The drying unit comprising a conveyor belt and a drying unit heating assembly. The drying unit heating assembly comprising a plenum and a heating chamber. The drying unit further comprising a burning unit in communication with the heating chamber to provide for radiant heat to contact the product traveling on the conveyor through the drying unit. The drying unit further comprising a blower far in communication with the plenum to provide for convective air advancing from the plenum, over and through the radiant heat, to the product. Wherein the radiant heat is disbursed throughout the product. A first embodiment of the invention controlling hear generated by the burning unit of each respective drying unit. A second embodiment of the invention controlling heat generated by the burning unit and rate of the conveyor of each respective drying unit. A method of operation of the radiant conveyor drying system is described.
