    • A thermostat includes a housing having a generally rectangular frame-shaped surface that extends around a display device, and first and second side walls on opposing sides of the housing. The first and second side walls of the housing each include at least one recessed notch therein. The various thermostat embodiments further include a colored insert having a generally rectangular frame-shaped configuration, which matches the generally rectangular frame-shaped surface of the housing. The colored insert is disposed over the housing so as to substantially cover the generally rectangular frame-shaped surface of the housing. The various thermostat embodiments further include a single translucent faceplate having an aperture therein, a generally rectangular frame-shaped surface extending around the aperture, and first and second side walls on opposing sides of the single translucent faceplate that include at least one engaging clip configured to engage the recessed notches in the housing.

    • An improved thermostat is provided that comprises a first wall disposed within the thermostat, which partitions off a portion of the interior space to form a compartment along a side wall of the thermostat that is separated from the rest of the thermostat's interior space. The thermostat includes a second wall that is adjacent to and spaced from the first wall, so as to define an insulating space between the compartment and the rest of the interior space. The thermostat further includes a first aperture that permits communication of airflow in a lower portion of the compartment, and a second aperture that permits communication of airflow at an upper portion of the compartment. A temperature sensing element is disposed within the compartment defined by the first wall. The temperature sensing device is thermally insulated from heat generated in the interior of the thermostat by the insulating space between the compartment and interior space.

    • A thermostat is provided with a closure member that encloses at least one battery received within the thermostat housing. The thermostat includes a thermostat housing having at least one compartment in the housing adapted to receive at least one battery therein, and a retaining portion. The thermostat further includes a closure member pivotally secured to the thermostat housing, which is slidable relative to the thermostat housing between an open position in which the closure member freely pivots relative to the housing to permit access to the at least one compartment for replacement of a battery therein, and a latched position in which a latching portion on the closure member slidably engages the retaining portion on the thermostat housing to secure the closure member in a latched position.
