    • An electrical power wiring system comprising; Wall box (27, figure 11), power socket (25), power supply, and an electrical power connection 20 having; a pin 21 which fits into one of the terminals of the socket, insulator 23 surrounding a plurality of ports 24, which are in electrical continuity, and into which conductors of the wiring system are fittable. The dimensions of the electrical connections, when fitted to the socket, are compatible with the internal size of the wall box. Preferably the wall socket is for either power or lighting circuits, and the ports are designed similar to figure 7 with all the ports connected together by member 16. Preferably the ports are in a 1 x 3 matrix and the pin is either located near the end or the middle of the ports. Preferably the three ports of the connector are intended for ring main in (R1), ring main out (R2) and an optional power spur (S1). The connection preferably allows for a simpler, tidier wiring to the socket, reducing fires caused by electrical faults.

    • 10,658. Watson, D. M. June 12. Feedwater, purifying; incrustation, removing.- Relates to apparatus for evaporating sea-water by the waste heat in the funnel of a steamship. The steam may be condensed for use as boiler feed &c., or it may be used in the engine or employed for increasing the draught in the funnel. Means for automatically controlling the supply of water to the apparatus, and the discharge of sediment, are described, as well as means for removing scale from the apparatus. The evaporator consists of a closed vessel a, with a central flue d, placed in the funnel of a steamship, a portion of which is shown broken away at e. Sea-water is supplied by the pipe h, the supply being controlled by a ball cock k, the float of which is in a tank i. The feed-pipe h passes through the tank i. As the water rises, it first closes a float valve m in the bottom of the tank i, and finally overflows into it, lifting the float and closing the cock k. The water level then falls until the float valve m is uncovered, when the tank i empties itself and the cock k is reopened. From the bottom of the evaporator a drain pipe n, with cocks always slightly open, leads to a tank o and a waste pipe r. When the cock k is closed, the pressure of the water overcomes a loaded check valve v , and the water is delivered through a branch v to a cup u in a tank o. The weight of the cup then closes a valve s', thus stopping an opening from the tank o to the waste pipe. The tank then becomes full, and the ball-cock q is closed and the drain stopped until the feed-cock k is again opened ; the supply of water to the cup u is then stopped, and the valve s is opened, whereupon the tank o is emptied and the valve q is opened, and the drain recommences. Scale is removed by scrapers y, consisting of flat strips adjustably attached to framework arms w. These arms radiate from a cylinder x surrounding the flue d, which is rotated by worm gearing x . The arms also agitate the water.
