Class 118(1) [Also in Group XXXVII] A theft alarm for use with a motor vehicle comprises two pendulums, an outer one consisting of two depending arms 61, 62, Fig. 4, carried by a pivot block 55 and insulated therefrom by a layer 60, and a inner one consisting of a bob 65 carried by wire arms 67 which are pivoted in the block 55 at a point below the central axis thereof. Contacts mounted on the bob 65 co-operate with contacts mounted on the arms 61, 62 so that on disturbance of the pendulum system the contacts are closed to actuate the alarm. A block 64 is supported upon a screw 66 fitted between the lower ends of the arms 61, 62; thus by adjustment of the block 64 the inner pendulum may be centralized with respect to the outer one. The device is employed in the circuit shown in Fig. 1. The inner pendulum 30 is connected to earth and the outer pendulum 31 through a parallel arrangement of relay coils 35, 36 and heating coil 29 to a source of power through contacts 18, 20 of a key-operated switch 14. A resistor 34 is arranged in parallel with the pendulum device in order to increase the sensitivity of the relays when the switch 18, 20 is closed. With this switch closed, movement of the pendulums caused by a person tampering with the vehicle on which they are mounted effects the operation of the relay 35 which is self-holding by virtue of its being connected to earth through its contacts 32, 33. Relay 36 is simultaneously operated, thus closing contacts 23, 24 connected in the circuit of the vehicle's horn. The current flow through coil 29 effects the heating of bimetallic strip 28 so that after the horn has sounded for a certain period the contacts 26, 27 open and the alarm ceases. The contacts close again after the strip has cooled and the alarm recommences should the original initiating cause still be present. When the vehicle's ignition is switched on by the closure of switch 12 a solenoid 40 is energized and forces its armature 41 (see also Fig. 4) against the outer pendulum thus preventing movement thereof. An alternative alarm arrangement may be provided by the circuit shown in Fig. 1 by operating the key-operated switch 14 to close the switch contacts 15, 19 so that when the ignition switch 12 is closed the relay coil is energized thus closing the contacts 23, 24 and sounding the alarm.

A loose-leaf binder for holding leaves by wires 5, Fig. 1 whose ends are clamped in channels 6, attached to respective inner faces of the spine 2, is provided with a locking member 8 which facilitates the insertion of the ends of wires 5 particularly, the last one into channels. The locking member comprises a metallic bracket 13, Fig. 2, welded to the flange of the channel and provided with lateral bent lugs which close the ends of the channel. The bracket 13 is provided with an actuator 9 which may be welded centrally or intermediate the length of the bracket such that depression of the actuator lower one or both of the lugs to expose a slot through which the wire ends may be inserted. The loose-leaves which are intended for holding photographs are formed of two superposed transparent plastic sheets 15 which are welded along opposite longitudinal edges 16, 17 to define a pocket and a tubular channel through which the rod 5 may be inserted.

Classes 11 and 146(1) A loose-leaf book, file or album comprises a binder member of annular crosssection broken by a narrow slot and one or more leaves each having a resilient edge formed as a hollow bead or roll, normally housed within the binder and which will not without deformation pass through the said slot. The leaf 10 initially comprises a rectangular sheet which is bent double along a line 12 midway between two opposite edges. These edges are formed into the hollow roll 11 of arcuate or polygonal section and the leaf is further creased along a line 13 to position it in a substantially radial plane.. A plurality of leaves are stacked with their hollow rolls 11 nested one within the other, the nested rolls being housed within the binder member 1 which is rigid or spring-back, with cover members connected to it at 4, 5. The leaves may be transparent and the rolled portions at least are made of cellulose acetate or a synthetic plastic such as a thermoplastic.

    • 13,560. Westinghouse Brake Co., and Phillips, W July 1. Driving - chains. - In open-link roller chains having two-part pins, an inner sleeve or bush is interposed between the pins and roller, thus protecting the joint from dust and enabling the thrust exerted by the sprocket teeth to be directly transmitted by the same pair of links, at the same time avoiding any tendency of the parts of the joint to slide one upon the other. The bush is rigidly connected to one part of the joint and to the links. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the bush 5 is made up of a series of rings or washers which are secured to the pin 3 and thus also to the links 4. According to Fig. 4, the bush 5 is in one piece, and is secured in holes in the links 4 under pressure. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the bush 5 is incomplete. The pin 3 is made larger, so that its outer surface and the outer surface of the bush together form a bearing for the roller 7.

    • By heating in the undissolved state nitrocelluloses and nitrocellulose products such as smokeless powders, celluloids, or nitrocellulose films or coatings such as imitation leather, the viscosity of the doughs or solutions prepared therefrom is permanently lowered. The nitrocellulose &c. may be heated in the dry state or in non-solvent liquids, or after gelatinization but without solution, or by a combination of these methods; and the extent to which the viscosity is reduced depends on the temperature and the duration of the heating, the reduction being greater as the temperature is higher. In examples, smokeless powder is heated in an autoclave with water or other non-solvent liquid to temperatures of 100-140 DEG C. or higher; nitrocellulose is gelatinized with camphor and alcohol, and the mass heated in an autoclave. Nitrocellulose or a nitrocellulose product is heated in air, or preferably in an indifferent gas, to 120 DEG C. or 130 DEG C. Specifications 8951/85 and 18233/98, [both in Class 9, Ammunition &c.], 13023/07 and 11941/11 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) included also the treatment of nitrocellulose and its products while in solution. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
