    • 128,520. Wright, D. M. June 5, 1918. Guards, controlling.-In die presses and the like, particularly such as are described in Specification 125,808, a guard surrounding the dies controls the driving - clutch through a detent co-operating with a clutch - disengaging cam-lever. The guard 35 is moved downward to cover the dies 27, 28 and carries a pin 3'7 engaging a plunger 39 on a rod 41 normally held raised by a spring 40. The rod 41 is linked to a lever 57 whose arm 58 normally engages a lug 59 on the side of a camlever 48 spring-pressed to engage with and withdraw a sliding clutch pin 46 carried by a dieactuating collar 47. To throw the clutch into operation for one revolution, a pedal 54 is lowered and swings a lever 50 linked to a latch 44, which engages a lug 49 on the lever 48 so that the arm 48 is lowered and the clutch pin 46 released. A projecting pin on the driving-pulley during its rotation then strikes the pin 46 and starts the machine, the pin 46 during its rotation striking the latch 44 and disengaging it from the lever 48 which returns to position to disengage the clutch at the end of the revolution. A hand-lever 42 is connected by pin and slot means to the lever 48 so that the lever may be kept lowered and the clutch permanently engaged. When the cage 35 is in its raised position, the arm 58 prevents movement of the lever 48 and so engagement of the clutch.
