Classes 34(1) and 34(2) In a perforated-drum drier for drying textile material, loose fibrous material or loose chemical substances, e.g., sulphur powder, each drum has an air circulating fan or fans disposed therein. In the drier shown, each of the drums 2...5, Fig. 1, is rotatably mounted about a stationary structure comprising a partitioning wall 13 having an opening 14 over which a fan 15 is mounted. The drums 2... 4 have direct drive motor-driven fans, that in drum 4 differing from those in drums 2, 3, through being supported by the drier end walls. The fan in drum 5 is driven exteriorly of the drum by shaft and bevel gearing. Air heating tubes 16, which are shown outside the drums may, if desired, be disposed therein. In a roller mounted drum 39, Fig. 3, a double-entry fan 44, on an exteriorly driven shaft 45, is contained within a spiral housing and mounted in association with a stationary drum partition 50 and air heating elements 49 such that air is drawn through the drying material 55 in the arrowed directions 56 to be discharged from the drum through, the elements 49
