    • The invention concerns a surgical instrument with a rigid tubular shaft. Located at one end of the shaft is a tool with two jaws which can be pivoted with respect to each other, and at the other end of the shaft a handle. The instrument also has an actuator element fitted to the handle plus a force-transmission element, operated by the actuator element, to open and close the jaws. In oder to make it possible, even when the shaft has a very small external diameter, to open and close the jaws and also to angle the jaws to one side, the invention proposes that the instrument is fitted inside with a carrier and a flexible sleeve surrounding the carrier and that the shaft and sleeve can be moved independently of each other in the longitudinal direction, thus controlling the angling and opening/closing movements of the jaws.
