    • An adjustable lumbar support (100) adapted to be easily integrated into new or existing seat structures. Adjustable lumbar support (100) includes a lower floating plate (115) that is adapted to have a second, or upper, plate (130) hinged relative to the lower plate (115). The upper and lower plates have independently actuated support linkages (120 and 140) that are selectively actuated by first and second actuating mechanisms. In this manner, selective actuation actuator mechanisms associated with the lower and upper support plates (115 and 130) provides adjustment of a vertical dimension of said four-way adjustable floating plate lumbar support. The degree of support provided by floating plates (115 and 130) is adjusted by adjusting the effective length of the support linkages.

    • An adjustable lumbar support (10) adapted to be integrated into new or existing seat structures. Adjustable lumbar support (10) includes a floating plate (15) supported by a support linkage. In one embodiment, the support linkage is defined by first and second spring members (25) and (26) which engage the seat frame. In an alternate embodiment, the support linkage is defined by first and second spring members (25) and (26) engaged with first and second linkage members (52), respectively, and includes a rotary power mechanism (50) for applying a rotating motion to a shaft (54) threadably engaged with first and second linkage members (52). The degree of support provided by floating plate (15) is adjusted by adjusting the effective length of the support linkage. Lumbar support mechanism (10) can be mounted in a seat back alone or in conjunction with an integral trim attachment array (70). Trim attachment array (70) is adapted to replace the trim wires molded into the cushion foam of a standard seat.

    • Adaptors (16) are disclosed for a seat assembly. The adaptors may be used for mounting a support extending substantially across a frame (12) between first and second side members. The adaptor (16) may be attachable to an opening in the frame. The support (16, 30) may include a hook (52) having a bending distal end. The adaptor includes a non-metal body including a mounting structure configured for attaching the body to the opening in the frame, a passageway (58) extending through the body for receiving the hook, and a seat within the body for securing the bending distal end of the hook to the adaptor. The mounting structure is configured so that when the support is loaded the adaptor is loaded by the hook substantially in compression. Alternatively, other designs with the loading in compression or tension are possible. Seat assemblies and methods of assembly are also disclosed.

Trim attachment array (70) is adapted to replace the trim wires molded into the cushion foam of a standard seat. Integral trim attachment array (70) is defined by a trim ring (73) having integrated pinch clips (76). The trim ring has a rectilinear configuration adapted to conform to the outline of the seat back. Trim ring (73) is, preferably molded into the seat back foam as will be understood by those skilled in the art. Linkages (79) are utilized to link a plurality of trim rings (73) together or to link trim ring (73) to floating support plate (15).
