    • Reactions products from olefinically unsaturated carboxylic acids and polyetherols suitable as demulsyfing agents for crude oil emulsions are obtained by (A) condensing one or several unsaturated C3-C10-carboxylic acids or their derivatives having general formula (I), in which R and R stand for hydrogen, C1-C4-alkyl or carboxyl and R stands for hydrogen or methyl, and R may form a 5- or 6-membered anhydride ring with the carboxyl group, with a polyetherol having general formula (II), in which R stands for the residue of monohydric or polyhydric alcohol, phenol or alkyl phenol with 7 to 30 carbon atoms, or for the residue of a condensation product of an alkyl phenol/formaldehyde or alkyl phenol/acetaldehyde; R stands for a branched or straight chain C2-C4-alkylene group, whereas different [R -O] units may be present within a polyalkylene oxide chain; and X stands for an integer from 5 to 120. The molar ratio between the compounds (II) and (I) lies between 2:1 and 10:1 and their weight ratio lies between 25:1 and 1000:1. In a second step (B), the thus obtained condensation product is polymerised with one or several unsaturated carboxylic acids (I), and if required with other olefinically unsaturated monomers capable of being copolymerised with the carboxylic acids (I). The proportion of carboxylic acids (I) in the amount of olefinically unsaturated monomers amounts to 50 to 100 % by moles. The molar ratio of polyetherol (II) to the sum of olefinically unsaturated monomers used in steps (A) and (B) of the process lies between 1:5 and 1:200. In a final step (C), the thus obtained reaction mixture is condensed, provided that not all hydroxyl groups are reacted. Also disclosed is a process for preparing these reaction products, mixtures of the reaction products with organic solvents, and the use of the reaction products and of the mixtures as demulsifying agents for crude oil emulsions.
