摘要： An exhaust treatment system (20) is provided. The system may include a particulate trap (34) configured to remove one or more types of particulate matter from an exhaust flow of an engine (18). The system may also include a catalyst (32) configured to chemically alter at least one component of the exhaust flow. Further, the system may include an exhaust conduit (26) configured to direct the exhaust flow from the engine to the particulate trap and the catalyst. In addition, the exhaust treatment system may include a heating system (38) configured to maintain the temperature of the catalyst above a first predetermined temperature. The heating system may also be configured to periodically raise the temperature of the particulate trap above a higher, second predetermined temperature to thereby effectuate a regeneration of the particulate trap by oxidizing particulate matter accumulated in the particulate trap.

摘要： A diesel particulate filter (10) includes a honeycomb structure (18) having a plurality of elongated cell walls (20) defining a plurality of passages (22, 24) and a skin layer (30) surrounding the honeycomb structure (18). The filter (10) is regenerated by oxidizing particulate matter trapped within the honeycomb structure (18) by heating at least a portion of the honeycomb structure (18). A thermal gradient (62, 72) between the honeycomb structure (18) and the skin layer (30) is limited to less than a crack causing thermal gradient by utilizing at least one of maintaining a ratio of a heat capacity of the skin layer (30) to a heat capacity of the cell walls (20) at less than about 5, blocking at least those passages (40, 42, 44) comprising a perimeter of the honeycomb structure (18), and heating the skin layer (30) from an external side.

NOx adsorbers must be periodically regenerated, which requires an increased fuel consumption. The present disclosure includes a method of regenerating a NOx adsorber (16) within a NOx adsorber catalytic converter (17). At least one sensor (18) positioned downstream from the Nox adsorber (16) senses, in the downstream exhaust, at least one of NOx (22), nitrous oxide (24) and ammonia concentrations (23) a plurality of times during a regeneration phase (37). The sensor (18) is in communication with an electronic control module (20) that includes a regeneration monitoring algorithm (34) operable to end the regeneration phase (37) when a time rate of change of the at least one of NOx (22), nitrous oxide (24) and ammonia concentrations (23) is after an expected plateau region (26) begins.
