    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool assembly for boring with a wide adjustable range of processing diameters. SOLUTION: This tool assembly comprises a boring bar 31, and a tool cartridge 39 used as installed on a boring bar to support a cutting tip 49. A main body 41 of the tool cartridge 39 is pivotally installed on a recessed place 33 formed in the boring bar 31 through a pin 37, so an adjusting screw 51 is driven into a screw hole in the cartridge main body 41 on one side of a pivotal point to be abutted on a part of the boring bar 31. On the other side of the pivotal point, a strong compression spring 55 is provided between the boring bar 31 and the cartridge main body 41. The adjusting screw 51 is loosened or tightened to pivotally move the cartridge main body 41 in a wide adjustable range. This adjustment may be automatically performed by providing a draw bar 60.

    • PURPOSE: To allow a deeper cut depth and a higher feeding speed by forming a cavity for previously bending a chip along a side surface of an insert body, and forming a chip breaker portion at a position lower than a knife. CONSTITUTION: This cut insert 10 suitable for especially an aluminum wheel turning of an automobile which is detachably mounted to a tool holder includes a polygonal insert body partitioned with an upper surface 12, a lower surface, and side surfaces 14, and a cross portion of the side surfaces 14 is defined as a nose portion 16. The upper surface 12 is provided with a knife 18 extending along its outer peripheral edge, a land 20 that is at the back of the knife 18 and tilts downward than the knife 18, a chip guide groove 22 positioned back than the land 20. A plurality of cavities (notches) 26 for previously bending a chip are formed in the land 20, main chip breaker portions 28, 30 are formed in the bottom of the chip guide groove 22, and thus, the material can be crushed into small chips.
