    • A method for detecting a regulating variable (M), in particular the motor position or the positioning path, of a mechanically commutated DC motor (2) in a positioning device (1) for a motor vehicle is provided, wherein the DC motor (2) has a standard ripple pattern (29) by mechanical or electromechanical modification, which contains per engine cycle or engine semi-cycle (Z) at least one index ripple (R1), which is classified with regard to amplitude (AR), duration and/or time position. According to the method, the motor current (la) and the motor voltage (UM) are measured during operation of the DC motor (2). The counter-electromotoric power (E) is calculated from the measured motor current (Ia) and the measured motor voltage (Um) by means of a motor model (10). An alternating element (Ew) corresponding to the current ripples (R) is extracted from the counter-electromotoric power (E), which in turn is used to determine the current ripples (R). Further, in at least one engine cycle or engine semi-cycle (Z) the index ripple (R1) is identified and the total identified current ripples (R) are counted. The result of the count (M) is hereby corrected when the index ripple (R1) is not counted at the expected position.
