    • An ignition plug includes a ceramic insulator having an axial bore, a metallic shell, and a terminal electrode. The insulator has an end-surface seat portion located forward of its rear end and being in contact with the forward end surface of the head portion, and an outer circumferential portion into which at least a forward end portion of the head portion is inserted and which is located externally of the outer circumference of the head portion.

    • A method for manufacturing an insulator includes: preparing a press pin and a forming die having a cavity, the press pin including a pin-side spiral portion formed on a first position; filling a raw powder into the cavity; arranging the press pin within the cavity; pressing the raw powder within the cavity along with the press pin, and obtaining a green body formed with a green body-side spiral portion; releasing the green body along with the press pin from the cavity; retreating the press pin with respect to the green body while rotating the press pin relative to the green body around an axis, and extracting the press pin from the green body; and removing an unnecessary portion from the green body. The first position is positioned such that the green body-side spiral portion is located in the unnecessary portion of the green body.

    • There is provided a spark plug of an internal combustion engine, including a cylindrical metal shell, an insulator retained in the metal shell and having a through hole in an axial direction of the spark plug and a center electrode fitted in the through hole of the insulator. The insulator includes a rear body portion, a middle body portion and a large-diameter portion located between and protruded radially outwardly from the rear and middle body portions to define a rear shoulder section connected to the rear body portion and a front shoulder section connected to the middle body portion. For strength improvements, the insulator has a first glaze layer extending over the rear body portion and the rear shoulder section of the large-diameter portion and a second glaze layer extending over at least part of the middle body portion from some point on the front shoulder section of the large-diameter portion.
