    • A lithium ion secondary battery includes a flat wound electrode body including a positive electrode sheet and a negative electrode sheet that are wound while interposing therebetween separators into a flat shape, and a battery case. In the flat wound electrode body, a central portion has a more constricted shape than end portions by pressing toward a winding axis in a short-side direction and each end portion includes an end-portion positive electrode sheet, an end-portion negative electrode sheet, and end-portion separators, and a core member arranged more inward than them. With tensile forces generated by pressing of the central portion in a central-portion positive electrode sheet, central-portion negative electrode sheet, and central-portion separators, the end-portion positive electrode sheet, end-portion negative electrode sheet, and end-portion separators are in pressure contact with each other and press the outer surfaces of the core member.

    • The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery 100 according to the present invention is provided with a wound electrode assembly in which a positive electrode sheet and a negative electrode sheet are wound, with a porous separator sheet 30 interposed therebetween. A filler layer 40 comprising an inorganic filler and a binder is formed on one side of the separator sheet 30. The filler layer 40 is continuously provided from the winding start end 38A to the winding finish end 38B of the separator sheet 30 in the winding direction of this sheet. The separator sheet 30 has low porosity regions 36A, 36B, which have a lower porosity than a location 35 outside these regions, in regions having prescribed width WA, WB from the winding start end 38A and/or the winding finish end 38B of the sheet toward the center of the sheet.

    • The present invention provides an optimal non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery having high durability against high rate charging and discharging and excellent safety. The non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery 100 according to the present invention comprises a positive electrode 10, a negative electrode 20 and a separator 30 which is interposed between the positive electrode 10 and the negative electrode 20. The separator 30 has a two-layer structure which is composed of a porous polyethylene layer 34 mainly composed of polyethylene, and a porous polymer layer 32 mainly composed of a polymer having higher oxidation resistance than that of the polyethylene, and an inorganic filler layer 40 including an inorganic filler and a binder is formed on the surface of the polyethylene layer 34 on which the porous polymer layer 32 is not formed.
