[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups XVII and XXII] An extrusion cylinder 7 is pivotally mounted near its nozzle end by means of integral trunnions 6 which engage in recesses 4 in the side plates 1 of the machine frame. When the extrusion plunger 11 is withdrawn it engages a hook 25 on one end of a pivoted lever 21, causing the other end 31 of the lever to rock the cylinder about its pivots, thus allowing the material which is to be extruded, e.g. foodstuffs or sand for foundry cores, to be introduced into the cylinder through its open end. The part 26 of the lever 21 acts-as a counterweight to normally hold the hook 25 down on the inside of the cylinder and thus keep it in place during extrusion. The hook may have a rubber pad 27. In a modification, (Fig. 6, not shown) the hook engages in a notch provided on the outside of the cylinder, and the arm 26 has a roller on the part 31 which engages the cylinder, while it is being rocked. The recesses 4 have overhanging parts 33 to prevent the cylinder rising during extrusion. The cylinder has ribs 8, running from the trunnions 6, which rest on ledges on the side plates 1. The plunger may be operated by a rack and pinion driven through gearing 17 by movement of a handle, or it may be operated by power. A guard may be provided for the gearing. The cylinder may be made of rustless iron or steel, or its internal surfaces may be vitreous enamelled or electro-plated and the face of the plunger may be electro-tinned.

    • A method for applying pressure relief valves to packaging during the packaging process. A punch shaft and an applicator shaft each have an axis and opposed ends. The punch shaft has a punch at one end. The applicator shaft has an applicator vacuum head at one end. Each shaft moves axially between retracted and extended positions. The shafts are angled, with the punch and applicator ends more apart than the respective opposed ends, and are carried on a plate for limited rotational movement relative to the applicator unit. First the punch is pivoted from a first position into a third position, while the applicator head is simultaneously pivoted from a second position into the first position. Then the punch is pivoted from the third position back into the first position, and the applicator head is simultaneously pivoted from the first position back into the second position.

    • The present invention is a drag-type drill bit for drilling a borehole in the earth. The bit is designed to rotate about a central axis of rotation and has a bit body having a leading face, an end face, a gauge region, and a shank for connection to a drill string, a plurality of nozzles in the bit body for delivering drilling fluid to the end face, a plurality of blades upstanding from the leading face of the bit body and extending outwardly away from the central axis of rotation of the bit. Each blade terminates in a gauge pad with a surface which faces a wall of the borehole. A first plurality of cutters are mounted on the blades at the end face of the bit body and a second plurality of cutters are mounted the gauge pads and arranged such that in operation, they cut the wall of the borehole. Each one of the second plurality of cutters has a backrake less than or equal to about 20 degrees. A plurality of non-cutting bearing element are mounted on the gauge pads in a trailing relationship relative to the rotation of the bit behind at least some of the second plurality of cutters. The surface of each gauge pad is relieved from the borehole by at least 3 mm.
