    • The present invention, in one aspect, discloses a system for selectively anchoring a wellbore tool at a desired location in a wellbore or tubular member such as casing or tubing; such a system with a selectively settable anchor assembly that has a piston that is moved upwardly by fluid under pressure from the surface thereby moving one or more movable slips out from a body of the anchor assembly to set the anchor assembly in place; and such a system with a whipstock connected to the anchor assembly. Fluid under pressure pumped from the surface down a workstring to which the system is connected flows to the anchor assembly through or adjacent the whipstock. In one aspect a mill (or mills) is releasably connected to the whipstock. In one aspect, fluid under pressure flows through or adjacent the mill(s) to the whipstock. In one aspect a selectively actuable valve assembly is provided for selectively controlling the flow of fluid under pressure from an inlet end of the valve assembly out through an outlet end thereof for flow, e.g., to a mill, whipstock and/or anchor assembly. In one aspect such a valve assembly is used with a system as previously described to selectively provide actuating fluid under pressure to an anchor assembly as described to set the movable slip(s) thereof and, in one aspect, to then provide jetting fluid to jetting ports of the mill(s) upon release of the mill(s) from a whipstock.

    • The present invention, in one embodiment, discloses a whipstock system having an orientation device; a flexion member releasably secured to the orientation device; co-acting lower and upper body members, the lower body member interconnected with the flexion member; a connecting bar which connects the upper and lower body members permitting the upper body member to move downwardly with respect to the lower body member while preventing separation of the two body members; and a concave member secured to and above the upper body member. In one preferred embodiment, one or more movable pawls on the connecting bar move to engage surfaces on one or both body members to prevent upward movement of the upper body member with respect to the lower body member, or conversely movement of the lower body member downwardly away from the upper body member; and movement of the one or more pawls in contact with both body members also forces the two body members apart further stabilizing the system in a tubular. Also disclosed is a setting or installation tool with a mandrel rotatable in an upper housing, the mandrel secured to a lower housing, so that torque or torsion is not transmitted through the tool. Also disclosed is a toggling connection member which permits a concave member to be pushed and then to move upwardly to pivot to a desired position.

    • An indicator device has been invented for indicating correct orientation of an orienting receptacle and an associated wellbore tool secured to the orienting receptacle with respect to an anchor fixed in an interior of a longitudinal channel, the anchor having a top end, the indicator device having a rod having a top end and a bottom end and movably disposed in and extending through a tool central channel of the wellbore tool and with a bottom portion extending into the orienting receptacle; the bottom end of the rod disposed for contact by the top end of the anchor and the rod movable upwardly in the tool central channel by the top end of the anchor as the orienting receptacle moves down on the anchor to correctly orient the wellbore tool. A wellbore tool system has been invented for disposition in a longitudinal bore channel above and with respect to an anchor secured in the longitudinal bore channel, the anchor having a top end, the system having a wellbore tool having a top end, a bottom end, and a longitudinal tool channel therein; an orientation receptacle for receiving and contacting the top end of the anchor for orientation with respect thereto; and a movable rod with a top portion movably disposed in the longitudinal tool channel in the wellbore tool, and with a bottom portion with a bottom end projecting into the longitudinal orienting channel of the orientation receptacle for contact of the bottom end of the rod by the top end of the anchor for upward movement of the rod indicating that the orientation receptacle and its associated wellbore tool are correctly oriented with respect to the anchor and the longitudinal bore channel. A whipstock system has been invented which has such a wellbore tool system.

    • The present invention includes, in one embodiment, a receptacle for use in orienting a tool or member in a wellbore or in a tubular with respect to an anchor (or other member) anchored in the wellbore or tubular. In one aspect the receptacle has hollow cylindrical body with a tapered nose and a lower alignment assembly in a bottom of the hollow body member. The lower alignment assembly receives and releasably holds a top portion of the anchor and facilitates its movement through and orientation with respect to the receptacle. In one aspect the receptacle also includes an upper locking assembly which receives and locks onto the anchor. An anchor according to this invention has a guide key according to this invention with dual opposed carved surfaces which co-act with curved surfaces on the tapered nose of the receptacle's body to facilitate movement of the receptacle in a correct orientation down over the top to the anchor. A survey tool according to this invention has an orientation indicating device secured to an orientation assembly according to the invention. A split lock ring according to the invention has a lower inclined surface on a body thereof to enhance locking engagement force.

    • The present invention discloses a whipstock assembly (100) for use in forming a lateral borehole from a parent wellbore. The whipstock assembly comprises a body (122) and a deflection member 120) above the body. The deflection member includes a concave portion (111) for deflecting a milling bit during a milling operation. Disposed on a perforation plate (110) portion of the concave portion is a raised surface feature (116). The raised surface supports a milling bit above the perforation plate portion during a milling operation. This, in turn, substantially prevents frictional contact between the milling bits and the perforation plate portion during a milling operation. The present invention also provides a novel method for manufacturing a whipstock in which a cavity portion is formed behind the perforation plate by milling out the backside of the deflection member and then joining a second back cover member to the whipstock body to complete the assembly.

The at least one fluid passage apparatus is securable to a member of the tubular wellbore string while the at least one fluid passage apparatus is positioned within the hollow interior of the housing so that fluid in the hollow interior of the housing is flowable through the fluid flow channel from one end of the fluid passage apparatus to the other end of the fluid passage apparatus permitting movement of the fluid passage apparatus within the housing controlling movement of the member of the tubular wellbore string and thereby controlling movement of the tubular string in the wellbore.

In one aspect there is one or more toothed slips on the movable member for engaging an interior surface of the wellbore tubular in which the whipstock system is to be anchored. In one aspect such a system can be used "through tubing".
