    • An anti-friction tapered roller bearing comprising a generally cylindrical inner race body portion having an outwardly facing frusto-conic bearing surface on said inner body portion constituting the main bearing surface of the inner ring of a tapered roller bearing and a generally cylindrical outer race body portion having an inwardly facing frusto-conic bearing surface on said outer body portion, with flanges or ribs extending radially at one or both ends, at least one such rib being constituted integrally with the body portion and being formed by known forming processes from end material of the body portion of the bearing component in such a manner that the fiber flow of the body and the integral rib results in minimal exposure of fiber ends on any bearing surface, and the method of manufacturing such a bearing component by specially forming at least one end of the body portion.

    • An anti-friction bearing component manufactured of constituent parts, such parts being fused into a generally cylindrical body portion having a bearing surface, with flanges or ribs extending radially at each end, at least one such rib being constituted by an annular cap so fused to the body portion that no part of the zone of fusion intrudes into the bearing surface, the other rib being formed by conventional forming processes from end material of the body portion of the bearing component or such other rib being constituted by a second annular cap fused to the body portion in a fashion similar to the first mentioned rib.

    • Apparatus for conditioning (i.e., lapping, pressure grinding or flash rolling) the surfaces of anti-friction rolling elements such as cylindrical rollers, needle rollers, barrel rollers or spherical rolling elements which comprises relatively movable plates complementarily channeled to provide tracks for passage between said plates of the elements to be conditioned, means for applying high uniform or variable pressure through said plates to said elements, means for applying abrasive material to the elements being conditioned, and means for actuating the plates, according to their design, for reciprocating movement to condition a low quality batch of elements or for continuous one-way movement to act on a succession of elements which may be recycled as required to achieve the desired result of high quality anti-friction rolling elements. Also the method of effecting the conditioning of such elements by the means described or equivalents thereof.
