    • A forklift mast assembly for attachment to a self propelled vehicle includes a pair of outer masts horizontally spaced from each other, and a pair of inner masts disposed just inwardly of the outer masts for up and down rolling motion relative to the same. Each outer mast is of U shaped cross section, defining a space opening inwardly or toward the other outer member for rotatably receiving an inner roll on the bottom end of the associated inner mast. Each inner mast is of H shaped cross section, defining an outwardly open space for rotatably receiving an outer roll on the top end of the associated outer mast, and an inwardly open space for rotatably receiving one pair of carrier rolls on a prong carrier. The outer masts are further rimmed to bear the axial thrust of inner rolls when the prong carrier is loaded out of the perpendicular in the plane of the mast assembly. Preferably, the inner masts are also rimmed to bear against the outer rolls and, if desired, against the carrier rolls as well. The improved mast configurations make it possible to eliminate a tie at least from between the bottom ends of the inner masts. Ties may also be removed from between the top ends of the outer masts and from between the top ends of the inner masts, depending upon the arrangement of the other parts of the mast assembly.

    • The present invention provides a converging light transmitting glass body whose refractive index gradually changes from its central portion to its surface in a direction transverse to a path of light, said glass body containing at least three cations constituting modifying oxides of the glass, a first and a second cation among said cations showing concentration changes of converse gradients from its central portion toward its peripheral surface, and a third cation showing no substantial concentration change at the central portion of the glass body but showing a substantial continuous concentration charge outwardly thereof toward its peripheral surface. The present invention also provides a process for producing the light transmitting glass body which comprises contacting a glass body containing a modifying oxide of a first cation with an ion source containing the second cation to produce a pre-produced glass body, and then contacting the pre-produced glass body with an ion source containing the third cation, or which comprises contacting a glass body containing a modifying oxide of a first cation with an ion source containing a second cation and a third cation. The converting light transmitting glass body of the present invention has an ideal refractive index distribution.

    • A process for producing flakes of glass. The process is started by applying a solution containing an organic metal compound to a substrate. The solution is dried and peeled from the substrate. The resultant film is sintered. There is also disclosed an apparatus for producing flakes of glass. The apparatus comprises means 2 for applying solution 1 containing an organic metal compound to a substrate 3 taking the form of a loop, means 4 for drying the film created by the solution containing the organic metal compound, and means 5 for collecting flakes obtained by peeling the dried film from the substrate. The substrate forms a circulatory continuous conveyance path which passes through the applying means, the drying means, and the collecting means in succession.
