    • Disclosed are a display apparatus and a method of driving the same. An image signal receiver sequentially outputs frames for image display. A local illumination calculation unit displays an image on a display unit based on the frames and calculates light emission amount of a light source provided for each section of a backlight unit. A frame interpolator generates sub-frames based on the frames and outputs the sub-frames and the frames. A pixel adjuster adjusts light transmittance of each pixel according to the brightness of each pixel and the amount of the light emitted from each section which is calculated by the local illumination calculation unit when the image is displayed based on the frames and the sub-frames sequentially output from a frame interpolator. Local illumination is realized without increasing the number of memory devices while a frame frequency is increased.

    • A signal generation device generates a packet containing information obtained by encoding a video signal by using a video signal of a predetermined number of vertical periods as a unit and adds serial number information indicating the generation order as a packet is generated. A signal decoding device includes a packet absence detection circuit for detecting the serial number information added to the packet received, thereby determining absence of the packet, and a memory for holding a video signal. When the packet lack detection circuit has not detected any packet absence, the memory is made to hold at least a part of the video signal decoded. When the packet lack detection circuit has detected a packet absence, the video signal held in the memory is output. The signal generation device and the signal decoding device constitute a simple circuit structure for suppressing image disorder caused by a transmission error.

    • A code multiplexing/reading apparatus includes a first register. Two codes that reside in a predetermined relationship are outputted from the first register, which are superimposed on a video signal to be recorded by operation of switches. Consequently, a video recording device records a code-multiplexed video signal on a recording medium. When the code-multiplexed video signal is reproduced from the medium by a video reproducing device, two codes taken out of the reproduced video signal are compared with each other by a comparator. When the two codes are “1001101” and “0110010”, the inversion of the former code agrees with the latter code. Therefore, the former code is outputted as a predetermined code from a second register.

    • A video signal processing apparatus includes a time-division multiplex circuit and a multi-display circuit. A video signals outputted from a first A/D converter included in the time-division multiplex circuit is applied to a memory included in the time-division multiplex circuit and a further memory included in the multi-display circuit. A video signal outputted from a second A/D converter included in the multi-display circuit is also written into the further memory. Then, video signals read-out from the further memory are outputted from a plurality of monitor screens. Since the video signal outputted from the first A/D converter is applied to the further memory, it is possible to increase a renewal speed of the monitor screens with no additional A/D converters in the multi-display circuit.
